fugg i'm still waiting on my SKX007. Let's hope it arrives before the new year.

Also i need a couple of ideas as to how to write the nylon/nato/zulu section. And also if Cordura straps belong there or in the uniques section.
>>
>>51947236
It is worth noting that there's variations of single push button (friction fit and whatever as well as folded or milled) and that two pushers (butterfly) tends to open differently. There's some (probably not accessible on low budgets) with tongue keepers / hiders as well.
Perhaps you could go into quite a bit more detail at least on cow.
There's divers fat springbars, haute oldschool screws and panerai tube thing as well.
Bitchwrists will be interested in short length and canadians in extra long.

That's cool. I didn't know you were writing a guide. Don't forget perlon, it looks really comfy with all those holes. Are you familiar with the different ways of looping a 5 ring vs a 3 ring zulu? I saw a weird picture of a zulu with 5 rings with a more secure way of looping it around, but I can't find it anymore.
As for delivery times during the holiday, my skx was actually stuck in vancouver customs for about 14 days.

Point taken, various clasps and pushers will be added, tounge keepers and hiders are rather rare so i don't think i'll cover them.

Fat 2.5mm springbars and panerai screw tubes will be added, need to add those annoying casio one sided springbars like on the F91.

If anybody is up for writing the bitchwrist section then be my guest.

I got my steinhart handwinding (unitas 6497) a year ago and I fucking love the handwinding movement.

I'm thinking of buying another watch with a handwinding movement but my budget is a little tight this time, around 350usd.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting pic related, hamilton khaki mechanical. It uses the eta 2804.

eco drives are fine.
both those models are PVD (that's what makes the case black), so the colour on the case will probably not hold up well to time or abuse.

They're a good value for dollar mid-range brand. I mean, I got this Hydroconquest for 1360 CAD/980 USD. That's pretty good for an ETA 2829-A2 top grade.
>>
>>51948420
It's a pretty good watch. I like mine, keeps decent time, sapphire crystal, light on the wrist and slim. The lugs are a bit long, and the buckle is plastic. The case is nicely finished.

I still can't figure out why Hamilton and Tissot don't put the ETA 2801 series into their dress watches. No one would complain about the Tissot thick-o-date with a nice slim handwind movement.

>>

>>
>>51950635
2824 is probably cheaper just because of how common it is. Plus part of Swatch's marketing strategy is to make sure all of their low tier watches look nice but not too nice so that you know your place and keep climbing that ladder up to Omega like a good goy.
>>
>>51950854
Yeah, we phased out the Viking funerals a long time ago. Health and Safety regulations, you know.
>>
>>51950906
The 2801 is the forefather of the 2824- without getting into the details, the 2824 is essentially a 2801 with some bits to make it automatic.

I think they worry people will forget to wind their watches and get to whining.

Mainly because the Swatch Group has spent the last couple of decades grinding Longines into the dirt as part of their brand strategy of elevating Omega, even though Longines arguably was a more prestigious maker originally.

Omega was huge and more recognizable, though. They were the biggest maker of chronometers for years until Rolex overtook them. Don't get me wrong though, Longines was great too and it's a damn shame how Swatch has shit on both companies and shit on every other brand they own. Awful company, I wish Omega had gone to Seiko instead but then again maybe Seiko would've done some retarded shit with the Omega brand like they did with Pulsar.

Gaiz I have an idea. I got a bunch of enamel and acrylic model paints in all kinds of military green. I wonder if I'd spraypaint the stainless steel case of say a HMT Pilot or sand down and and repaint a Komandirskie would it be comparable to PVD in toughness?

Pic related, the look I'd be aiming for.
>>
>>51952926
Depends on which kind of PVD.
DLC (duracoat / cerakote mainly I'd guess) - no way, not even close.
Same with parkerising and stuff.
Though old and/or very low budget PVD is similar in toughness - very poor.
Do it skilfully with an airbrush or don't do it at all.

Hi again and thanks. Yes, I know, a friend of mine, who browses 4chan more than I do, told me I should drop by, because -rather surprisingly- someone remembered me here and was asking.

I'm actually taking a sabatical, and I've mostly traveling and taking photos so, don't come here as often as I should.

Funny you ask since, quite recently I just decided to add a third independent to the collection. You already know the F.P. Journe and the Maison Celadon but I decide to put my name in the waiting list for a Laurent Ferrier Galet Square in steel. It's a long wait though.

Yeah, was going to go for a laugh, there are heaps of vocational institutes around here, but the closest one teaching it was 100km away

You can get a really cheap set of tools from eBay, they are probably shit quality, but in the beginning you literally only need a case back opener, tweezers and a micro screw driver
>>
>>51957397
An accutron isn't more expensive to service than any other watch really. The former head of service at bulova, who worked on the 214 movements, is at palmer's jewelry (in indiana) now. It'd cost $300 for a service of the movement, not counting if parts need to be replaced though.
>>
>>51958768
$300 is more then a normal movement. You always run the risk of the JEWeller stealing your original parts

Bit of a novelty however, the tuning fork movement is. Anyway, I'm flat broke
>>

Well I'm comparing this to how much it'd cost to service a given mountain jew watch, which can be $500+.

What are you end links like?
>>
Is there anywhere to actually get a Ray bezel by itself? I'd like to swap out the uglier one on my Mako.
>>
>>51959239
If you have the stock bracelet, they're the same. They're meh. Also, I really wanted the Ray watch face in navy with the pepsi bezel but it's not available but I'm really happy with it. Looks nicer in person than online. Got it a few days ago.
>>
>>51959305
I think you can contact orient for spare parts.
>>
>>51959305
You might need to contact orient themselves, not the orient usa gay cunts, they are just a licensed distributor

>>51959314
The bracelet are great for the price, the end links however are not. Prefer the bezel printing on the Ray, bezel is also exceedingly average

Pretty good for the price though, I paid like $150 australian for mine, retail as well
>>
>>51959463
Yeah, end links aren't great. It's good value though. I wanted a diver with a Pepsi bezel. Other choice was the Seiko but it was too...utilitarian.

From what I've read you can get one from Orient but only with a case too.

Also, unless he never adjusts his for daylight savings time and never leaves the timezone chances are you're looking at an accuracy based on a more recent adjustment, not one year. But even if it managed to keep particularly good time in one instance, it's still a cheap movement that is unlikely to keep time that well moving forward.

but yeah the yellow seconds actually looks more apt with the field watch aesthetic. that being said this might look weird on leather depending on what you choose. an "aviator" style strap (with the two studs near the lugs) would look ok i think.

sapphire is a meme material anyways
>>
>>51960628
I agree, but the guy asked for sapphire.
>>
>>51960628
No it isn't

I hammered one of my mineral crystals by brushing the watch against a door frame. Sapphire is quite good, however I will admit in some cases it isn't worth the exponential price increase some companies will charge for models with it
>>
>>51960618
you can buy an aftermarket sapphire for most common seikos and just go to a watchplace to switch it out if you must.

>>51960643
Personally, I think sapphire on a diver is an oxymoron. They're more prone to shattering, which is exactly what you don't want in a diver. But I guess nobody actually dives so moot point.
>>
>>51960592
I have but pretty sure most if not all are some mineral crystal hardlex mumbojumbo

>>51960628
I only ask because I'm a clutz and the only experience I've had with hardened mineral was with some shitty Casio. Thing kept getting scratched like crazy.

>>51960668
I have read online that divers don't really care about scratches since the bezel takes most of the wear is that what you are referring to?

Fuck I didn't even know you could do that sky's the limit I guess.
>>
>>51960717
Sapphire is allegedly more scratch resistant, but more prone to shattering under force. Hardened mineral is less prone to shattering on impact/pressure, so it's more appropriate for diver watches.
>>
>>51960668
It's kind of a difficult thing to talk about, you want a tool watch to be scratch resistant, yet won't shatter. In this age of disposability in terms of watches you be better off having a Quartz beater

>>51960741
It's a nuisance once you scratch it though, you can't polish it out like you would with acrylic

seiko makes those chrono movements where the timekeeping is done by a more or less regular quartz and the chrono is done by a (quartz regulated) mechanical movement.

I post here more often then id like to admit as well but rarely under name or a trip. Post some of your watches though, might be interesting.

Though i do have a reason for the trip.
>>
>>51962136
The point of 4chan is that you don't know who you are talking to. Then you're only taking into account what is in the post, and not anything you know about the person. Using names/trips/IDs just throws all of this out the window.
tripcodes are acceptable when you're the OP of a thread and it's important to know who you are, or if you're an expert on a subject and you don't want to constantly justify what you're saying. Even then, the trip should only be used when needeed, and not all the time.

"strapguideanon" is a good example of a bad use of a name/trip. He's not anyone special and it doesn't matter if it's him or anyone else that posts about the guide.
>>
>>51962181
I mostly use the trip as to get ideas for the guide and or post the newest guide version.

>>
>>51962216
No, that's not a legitimate use. You can read the ideas just as well as an anonymous and post the guide all the same.
Are you afraid of someone else doing a guide and claiming it's yours? Because that's not happening, and even if it was, if their guide was better than yours then you would just look like an idiot who trips for a bad guide.
>>
>>51962244
>it helps so people know if it is me or another anon voicing his opinion and butting into the conversation
That's what I'm saying: this should not matter. You're supposed to answer based on the content of the post, and not what was said previously. This is the main appeal of anonymous posting, and if you want people to know it's you posting, you should just go on a regular forum.
>>
>>51962181
Furthermore in your post you justified my namefaggging, I often give people adivce, and I'm far from an expert, because I reply to people so often I think it would be good for people to not take my more then likely average advice too seriously, I'Ve namefagged here and In /fa/ so many times and it never proposes a problem
>>

So please if you dont like mechanical watches go ahead wear your watch with an lcd screed on it after all thats what phones for. Idiot.

Would be nicer if it didn't have the words automatic 23 jewels. Maybe some kind of symbol if you want to break up the blank area.

Looks shopped, Orient has no reason to keep an obsolete design like the Mako alive when it's already been improved and evolved into the Ray, Mako XL and USA.

It's real.
They've kept producing (and selling) Makos all this time. None of those are improvements, they're just different designs.

Looking for a watch similar to this in grey with blue hands.

The Antea 365 has a silver dial.
Or Nomos make a gray Tangente, but it's only in 33mm (women's) and has white hands.

Source? I like the ray and mako USA dials but an updated movement would be even better

How long does an automatic power reserve normally last?
