So /g/ my new job is offering to buy me a new laptop for web/android development. They told me I had to choose between either a Google Pixel 2 LS or a MacBook Pro 13 with similar specs.
Specs:
i7 intel
16g ram
64/128g ssd
No dedicate gpu
So, which would you choose and why? I'm leaning toward google pixel. Remember, either one would be free.

You can probably do way more with the iMac, even though I really love the hardware of the pixel 2. It's literally like perfect for me. That's what I would make if I could. Can the pixel running chrome os give you the tools to develop? If so, go for it, if not, don't.

This, probably. I don't know how much stuff chromeos can actually run.
If they're even in specs, personally I would choose pixel with linux, but it's really your personal preference.
Op here. I was thinking pixel with Linux as back up. I don't think I would be very limited in chromeos with there being quite a few cloud based text editors among other dev apps. I could also remote access my home PC for any compiling I couldn't do on the pixel. Plus it's a damn sexy laptop.

Get the macbook pro. Macbooks are literally god tier for software development, don't listen to the /g/ may mays.
Also, if you're doing android dev, chances are you'll need to run an iOS counterpart at some point. If you don't have a mac you'll be screwed here.

I've never tried pixel but I'd get the mac anyway.
1. I don't like google
2. Macbooks are optimized better than other computers because apple have the years of experience and better control on their hardware, OS and software.
3. better overall user experience with mac
