why do you faggots always have to have a terminal window open?

is it because you're so insecure about looking knowledgeable that you pull it out so people assume you know how to use one?

or is it just because your ancient operating systems are so primitive they don't know what the print screen key is for?

genuinely confused.

To show terminal colours and rice.

Terminals are frequently used in Linux. If we didn't have them open it'd just be a wallpaper thread lol

you always this salty, man?
>>
>>51904241
Because using screenfetch lets people know what you're using so they don't get the all to common question of "how do I do this?"

Also, because desktop threads are about rice and not just your desktop wallpaper. Having a terminal open lets you show off your colors, just as having your browser open lets you show off your browser and 4chan css.
>>
>>51904241

last time I was in Japan me and friend were out scouting the city late at night, and in this dimly lit ghetto alleyway there was a hole-in-the-wall bar that was mostly candle lit, and it was playing jazz from a transistor radio. the bartender was wearing a suit and there were a couple patrons there too. was definitely a cool moment, sums up "alley jazz" for me

I consider messing with the plan9 color scheme pretty much a sin. For the past few years I have been living by the maxim of never turning the lights off until I am about to go to bed, and using flux/that version for X that's like 10 lines of code.
I know of a few idiots out there with dark scheme patches for acme, if you're interested:

DMR was a good programmer, but grandpa-tier with modern UIs. Acme was designed with geriatric UNIX users in mind, and rob pike did have a streak of "options and features confuse users" apple-ism in him. It affects its usability for people who still have minds agile enough to learn and like things like vim.

I installed arch, openbox, compton, tint2, and took a long time customizing them all (still looks like shit) and then realized that all I really do is use firefox. You all have a bunch of windows open and a terminal very paricularly placed of which's only function is doing screenfetch. I rarely listen to music on my harddrives anymore but even if I did I would just start up a minimal player with shuffle and minimize the terminal. Videos and image viewers as well. Who keeps a single windowed image up on their desktop permanantly?

cool, where as I script, make new desktops, do a little programming on the side and frequent between programs like ncmpcpp, firefox and both tiling/floating WMs depending on the day

the reason we show screenfetch is to show our terminal colours, fonts and software being used

if you dont like it feel free to go back to whatever you were doing before, no one cares

>>51905514
>It affects its usability for people who still have minds agile enough to learn and like things like vim.
are you seriously referring to vim as being more usable and easier to learn as compared to acme? All of the old socially awkward UNIX wizards that I know are and always have been hip to using vim. Honestly the smartest hackers I have ever met all use emacs or acme. I personally prefer emacs for larger projects, but acme is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I could see myself switching permanently in the near future. I find rob pike's software to be some of the most straight forward editors out there. The world would be much better off if the blit had caught on instead of the abortion that is known as xorg

And I just recently got addicted to DF too, wonderful

Guess it's time to stop playing around and finish this final project so I can migrate to Arch and rice it to hell

That's just two programs and one is a music player which I'm skeptical of your heavy interaction with.
>>
>>51905583
What you gain by making a program easier to learn and use, you lose by making it less efficient. Without revolutionizing the way we do human interaction with computers, the most efficient ways of interacting with systems will always be the most unnatural and least straightforward.

The worst part is that it doesn't have to be like that. You don't have to omit features that only benefit advanced and experienced users just to make a program simple to use - unless you're trying to make a statement, like a moron.

>I think it's pretty fair to call that project absolute shit and only possible from the idiots who try to be hip through obscurity.
