I have been playing League of Legends on my Ubuntu 15.10 install for several weeks.
With minor font issues in store, everything is working 1:1 with Windows. You get a minor drop in fps but that is due to my weak Intel HD 4000 graphics.
Dota 2 and LoL are fully supported on Ubuntu based distros.

Edge can play Webm files natively. It has built in flash support for retarded websites. It has the best smooth scrolling and the most clean font rendering even at higher resolutions. It works faster than any other browser. I have uninstalled IE11, it is no longer the default or breaks any OS functions.
Add-ons are in the works and soon coming to Edge. So IE11 is obsolete and deprecated along with Chrome and Firefox.

I dunno, I used one back when I used XFCE but I just have no reason now. Much easier to drop into TTY with a keybind and type sx [wm], and I can add as many random DEs/WMs I want to xinitrc for future reference.
It's also helpful to have easy access to tty, like if I want to login and copy a file real quick and then boot into windows, I dont even need to bother with a GUI period.

Most of the windows rice is Windows 7. Some people rice 10, but I never really see 8.1 riced.
If you want to use linux for ricing distro does not matter. Most people here use Arch because it gives you a clean slate to rice on, but it really just comes down to preference.

If you have Win8.1 then your partition table is already GPT which makes dual booting the easiest thing ever. You should really try Linux. Ricing Windows requires installing loads of software and changing system files, on Linux it's just altering clearly written configs.
