OP, you'll get more juice out of a 280x.
It's much better than the 960, and the 900 series are pretty much as optimised as they will ever be, while AMD consistently releases updates that give their cards considerable performance boosts.
Do consider though, Gigabyte, while not the worst, is also not the best of coolers for AMD cards. Expect it to run a little hot (around 70°C), and likely be a bit noisy. Other than that, it will be fine. 70°C is an alright operating temperature btw, don't get fooled by the high number. It's just that it could be lower with a better cooler.
