when SSDs first hit the market YEARS ago, they had a slightly shorter life span due to a limit on the amount of times you can write to the drive. Now the amount of times you can read/write is so many your mechanical drive will probably physically fail before the SSD stops working. SSDs are not prone to failure as much as HDDs are. Only reason not to put your OS on a SSD is because you are too poor for computers in the first place.
