is this another /g/ meme and should I just learn C# or Java instead?
>he fell for the "C is a meme" meme.
It's not a meme
At least if you are serious about understanding stuff and programming
but if you're just a little 15 year old gaymer boy who has too much free time and wants to make cool games then you can just start with whatever you want (like c++ or java)

Learn C#

C for system applications
C++ for desktop applications
Java for browser applications

>java for browser application
wow you are smert

You should probably learn C# or Java first because then you can actually be employed.
C is really excellent to learn, though, because it refines your understanding of what the computer is actually doing. Then again, I'm pretty sure I never fully grasped C concepts until I did a lot of x86.

Learn C. Other languages will make more sense after learning C.

Do you want to understand shit and/or become a systems programmer? Go for C.
Do you have little time, but want to get shit done? Go for C#, or if you hate Microsoft, then Java.
Do you have time and want to get shit done? Start with C, then go for C# (or Java).
C# is basically a more modern Java, but less popular since someone has to maintain all that old spaghetti Java code.

C is the literal opposite of a meme. It's been one of the most widely used programming languages in the world for decades.
It doesn't make a good first language, though. Manual memory management can be a pain in the ass. C++ is a better first language.
