>more functional than Gnome-shell yet less bloated than Gnome3
>least timesink among any DE and yet less bloat
>has a growing community
>has a search option in the menu
>decent visual effects in the latest 2.8
>still buggy, nemo crashed on my system a couple of times while handling removable media
>a number of application won't show up in the menu-option until the next cinnamon restart
>many popular themes are not fully compatible
Why does/doesn't /g/ recommend Cinnamon for a DE?
Cinnamon is love.
Arch/cinnamon bro here.
It's gnome 3 without the gay. Tried every common DE and its the one I hated the least. I'm not a minimalist ricer with unlimited free time so configuring a tiling WM like all the cool kids do isn't an option.

MATE
tried and true gnome 2 base

What theme is that? I may give cinammon another try. Currently I'm using kde 4. I like mate and lxde and other lightweight environments but there a bit old or simple now.
>>51865661
Cinnamon is heavy because it's just Gnome 3 fallback.
>>51865684
Except you can actually customise the panel, unlike gnome.
>>51865677
>cinnamon is non-free
Explain
>>51865678
It's menda with menda circle icons
>>51865661
Gnome 3 is more bloated, Gnome-shell is less functional

I've never tried Cinnamon before. I'm pretty happy with LXDE and LXQt is showing some promise too so I doubt I'll ever try Cinnamon tbqhwy family.
>>51865661
its nice to know gnome 2 will never die.
>>51865819
Cinnamon was actually never meant to be used on system with low resources

systems*
It looks just gorgerous when combined with Muffin WM.
Aside from that, I started with Linux Mint and I found it really time-efficient and intuitive compared to the other ones, not to talk about Unity
>>51865866
I even use LXDE/LXQt on my newer laptop and desktop. I like starting out with a barebones DE and then adding programs/functionality as I find a need for them. I don't like all the extra stuff that comes bundled with Gnome/Unity/KDE/etc. when I won't even use half of it.
>>51865485
you disgusting elite rich faggot. I can only run MATE.

That pic is so stupid.

Mate is fine, just comes with shit tier minimize effects that you gotta fix
>>51865485
Why bother with Cinnamon or any gtk3 based DE? The time it takes to troubleshoot esoteric dconf settings is better spent setting up a decent de/wm.
>>51866660
>troubleshoot esoteric dconf settings
never had the chance to do that tbqh

Cinnamon is what made me switch full time.
It's amusing how Canonical get bested by a small team of enthusiasts.
>no vertical taskbar
please tell me if this is possible now, i wanted to use cinnamon

All I need to switch over to Cinnamon is a good lightdm theme. The default one that comes with Debian just sucks.
>>51866109
This can't be real, Debian/Ubuntu can't be this bad!
