The other thread is nice, but lets change it up a bit and post our first smart phones and the experience we had with them.

Technically, my first smart phone was an iPhone 4. However, because the 4S just came out two days after I got my phone in the mail, AT&T allowed me to upgrade for free (shocking, right).

I was a freshman in high school and I absolutely loved this device. When I became a senior I moved onto Android but I came back to iOS.

No, it's really not.

For the typical user, WP is the best choice. For the advanced IT professional user, Android is the best choice because it has some IT apps that windows currently lacks. For people who see phones as status symbols and look down on people for having "poor" phones, iPhones are the go to.

The interface is a mess, things are inconsistent, basic applications are missing, basic feature are missing, and you suggest it for anyone but geeks?

Nah.

Well, you're wrong. But it doesn't matter because admittedly the stereotype is there and they aren't easily changed.

Treo 650, such an awesome phone. I still have it, still works after 10 years. Survived lots of shocks, a dog once grabbed it with its teeth and ran away with it. The battery lasts a few days, even though it has swollen. Too bad I lost the stylus. It can use SD cards. Runs Palm OS which was probably the best mobile OS back in the days.
Well Apple took inspiration from Palm (Lifedrive+phone) when they made the '' revolutionary '' iPhone so Palm used to be top dogs in the smartphone business back then.

Samsung Mesmerize (SCH-I500). Basically my carrier's rip-off flavor of the Galaxy S. The lowest memory-having of any of the variants (384 MB of RAM), but otherwise top notch for the time. 2GB internal storage, came with a free 16GB card (back in 2010/2011). It's actually not even bad by today's standards as far as speed.

I still use it as a daily as an Android "iPod Touch", or a really small tablet. Just surfing the internet and playing games so I don't drain my current phone's battery.

Also, I got an extended battery for the thing for like $12, and now with screen on full brightness, CPU maxed, camera flash on, I get around 9 hours of use. Realistic usage I get over 35 hours.

This one. I keep forgetting how tiny it was. I got it on a contract while living in the Netherlands in 2011, and I paid like 25 bucks a month for 1 year, too and it was a super sweet deal on a special offer. Two of my other friends got it too and it was our thing for getting onto the smartphone hype.

It was actually pretty decent, plastic samshit, but cheap and durable, screen never shattered and it could handle all apps I needed like maps, email, browsing, whatsapp, etc. quite well.
>>
>>51871788
You are wrong, same as anyone posting old Windows Phone/Palm devices in this thread. Those things were generally called either pda or palmphones, palmtops for the ones without gsm module. Technically those things were smartphones, however the term smartphone didn't really exist until iPhone and early Android models.
I used to be really into PDA and owned multiple, both wp and palm ones so I know what I'm talking about. I still have some of those (Blue Angel, Universal and 2 hella old monochrome palms)

Solid shit, though touchwiz held it back and I never knew better about smartphones until then. Great camera, screen, and slim bezels for the time. Battery is shit even with a fresh one installed, so the replaceable battery was moot (and doing swaps on the go is an autistic as fuck workaround, battery should be good in the first place)

Same thing as me, the first and last iPhone that I ever bought. It was pretty good at the time considering the equivalent Androids were pretty shitty compared to it. It was fast out of the box and had a crispy clear screen.

I wanted more features so I jailbroke it. It progressively became into a laggy piece of shit, and now iOS 7 has practically killed it, the performance is almost unsuable.

The Galaxy S3 I got after this was several orders of magnitudes better. Loved the big screen, microSD, removable battery and Android's out-of-the-box customisability
