Is Linux still irrelevant, and, still utter garbage?

That said..

You have exactly ten seconds to post five things Linux can do better than Windows.

Pro-tip: You can't.

I'm not even going to deny that. I started using linux because I was unemployed and bored. If I had a job back then, I'd have stuck with windows.

But I literally got my current job because I riced the shit out of my laptop, and the right person noticed it at a hackathon. Now I get paid to do what I would be doing with my free time anyway, which is fuck around with Linux, break it, fix it, repeat.

>>51854469
Linux is better than anything, since it's the only one that can actually become a standard. It's widely used and open so companies don't get scared away because another company pulls the strings. There's nothing that Windows or OS X actually do better, the only arguments are gaymes and Adobe, neither of those come from Microsoft or Apple. They could also be in Linux systems (and sometimes are) so that's not good enough.

It's also not an argument that it's something you're used to. There are new users being born constantly and they don't share your ancient experience. They could be taught to use the best one right from the start.
>>
>>51855784

My old job used to swap out every single HP ProLiant DL380 server whenever there was a new generation. The person in charge of money always fell for the salesperson who came along every year selling new hardware.

I don't work there anymore, but they recently finished replacing all their servers (which is about 30) with brand new Gen8, costing a fortune. They're already prepping for Gen9.

It's like they artificially created work to do because everything went smoothly normally.

Public sector in a rich society can be dangerous.

Community is as toxic as the people in it. If those people form the community for themselves then it's not toxic, you just don't like it. If it works for them and they are the ones who formed the community and are not forcing you to join them, it's a good community. There's no point in forcing them to change in order to get some more people to join that aren't comfortable with the current situation.

Linux kernel is a masterpiece and whatever they are doing, it's working. If the people who run the whole thing become irritated and uncomfortable the whole thing is at risk. SJW's better just back off and go circlejerk in Tumblr.

The word "toxic" doesn't not mean the same thing as "unpleasant". If you want to say "unpleasant" you should use the word "unpleasant". Toxic implies attributes that lead to the degradation or destruction of something. The Linux dev community produces fantastic results, and has done so consistently for a long time. If they started putting a higher priority on friendliness and political correctness than on the quality of the outcome, that would be a toxic community, because that community would harm the software.

Security, customization, configuration, memory and Hard disk management, price for performance.

Linux isn't garbage, it's just not ready for normies. Mac does everything for you, Windows let's you download from any site and includes automatic installers, but even Ubuntu throws package managers, repositories, and other scary words at normies that they aren't ready for for. And any obscure software had to be built and installed themselves.

In an age where we are trying to make user intervention from their programs as obscure as possible, this idea is frightening to the standard.

I would like to interject your interjection

GNU is not the operating system and linux is not "just the kernel". This user centric bullshit has to stop.

Linux and its various kernel modules comprise the operating system, the program that abstracts hardware resources and manages task scheduling and execution. The operating system is fairly useless without additional programs, but it's not supposed to be anything more but the base of a pyramid that is the full software package or distribution.

GNU comprises several parts of the userland. First there is the GNU C library. In Unix likes, the C library is necessary for the operation of most programs. Second, there is the rest, the user interface (shell, shellutils, compiler not required but handy). These are just as important, but no more important than any other programs and it is possible to freely replace them with few noticeable differences.

Given this, the best names are either "Linux", the distribution name ,or if you absolutely must advertise for a portion of the userland, Linux/GNU.

Fucking copypasta go back to whatever grave you crawled out of
