Switches are subjective. Try a switch tester.
Get off my lawn with your tiny keyboards
>>51837559
>tfw found out about this only today
>tfw have to join the second batch
A-at least my gateron yellows should have arrived by then for the barebones jack of all trades kit
>>51837627
be glad you'll be second batch, then you can still cancel if it turns out it's shit or he can fix problems if there's manufacturing problems
That base is fucking shit and too fucking thick.
Also exposed screws don't always looks good.
A shame because I really want a 65% keyboard.
Friendly reminder that mx blues are objectively the best switches, and the only reason not to buy them is if you are a sissy pants coward too scared to make noise and wake up mommy and daddy.
>>51837855
why wouldn't you just get a TKL
65% just looks like "I want to look like the cool kids but I still need my buttons so i'll just cram them in"
>>51837908
enjoy not being able to use it around other people
>>51837921
>around other people
>>51837913
It's just one more column on the right of enter instead of five, so the mouse still gets a lot of space (I have a 60% now)
And I don't have much use for the F1-12 keys, so I don't need to waste another row on top.
>>51837908
>Using switches that are worse than MX greens which are worse than buckling springs
>>51837908
Lmao if you are going to claim a switch is the best, don't post a photo of a fucking meme bar. Go back to reddit with that shit
>>51838073
I really don't see what the downside of a meme bar is.
I'll definitely try it to see if it's better than default when I get my new keyboard, but I doubt it'll be noticeable in any way
Is the Rosewill RK-9000v2 any good?
>>51838378
I think it's not worth the pricetag and you're probably better off with something like a WASD, Ducky or Filco
If you get a bargain on it, I don't doubt it's good though
>>51838127
It's not night and day but it's easier on your thumb so it doesn't get in your flow
>>51838378
I had an RK-9000 with blues, and it was a solid board. It was just a rebranded Filco after all. Not sure about v2 though.
>>51838647
Actually, scratch that, I don't think it was ever confirmed that it's a rebranded Filco.
I got a CODE TKL with Greens on the way. How memed am I /mkg/? It's mostly for gaymen, and it cost me fucking 300 Aussie funbux
>>51838726
>paying that much for a tkl
>greens for gaymen
Well I guess switch type is mostly up to preference but you did take it pretty far up the ass for the shipping
>>51838726
>300 AUD
You dun goofed.
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/code-keyboard?mode=guest_open
>>51838726
You could find a leopold or quickfire for much less. Also heard of them caps being trash so congrats on being jewed.
>>51838766
Welp I guess it's a good thing I won a bit at the casino last night but still
>>51838726
did you test switches?
did you do research on the keyboard?
did you do research on possible sites to buy from?
if yes to all above, you're fine, if no to any of them you fucked up, if no to the switches you're gonna be absolutely ass annihilated
>>51838806
>>51838726
see if you can still send it back
>>51838833
Fedex has got it. + I'm in Ausfailia so It could be anyware between here and there. I guess this is what it feels like to get jewed
>>51838876
It's okay, anon, you only lost like 80 AUD. At least you got the switches right. Right?
>>51838926
y-yeah green ones like I said
>>51838944
but you did test all the switches & thought those were the best, right?
I can get a cm Nova touch for 109€ shipped, should I try it?
I have 14 days to return it if I hate it, but I really want to know if topre is just a meme
Protip: I absolutely despise membrane keyboard, I'm too used to my mx blues now
>>51838963
ages ago on a tester. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between blues and greens other then greens having a 'deeper' click and maybe a tad more stiff to me. But I need something much stiffer then browns like I have so I guess greens it is.
>>51838999
I think topre is the quietest of mechanical keyboards.
If you like the noise of the blues, i don't think it'll be for you, but if you like blues for the tactical bump, apparently topre also has a really good tactical bump
where are you ordering it from?
>>51837559
ordered my supreme meme dream machine with clears
>>51839000
well blues are also slightly stiffer than browns, 5-10g stiffer
whereas greens are 30g stiffer than browns
>>51839009
>Topre
>Mechanical
>>51839009
eprice.it
Solid site, I spent more than 2000€ on it
>>51839040
>100€ off
I'd definitely get it, you can always send it back or resell it
Unless, like I said, you really like the noise blues make
>>51837559
>65% meme keyboard
>>51839081
Not so much about the noise but the feedback.
People say topre just fall flat after actuation which is mostly why I hate membrane.
Do topre keys fight my finger until bottom out or not? I like how my blue discourages me to bottom out and makes me light type
>>51839022
Any keyboard which requires you to push down a button is mechanical anon.
>>51839150
>tfw no electrical keyboard
>>51839163
well technically you could use one of those forcefield thingies to use a mechanical keyboard
>>51839171
electrical*
>>51839134
Reds are the ones which discourages you from bottoming out
>>51839492
encourages*
>>51839508
Did I mistype my sentence?
Light switches like reds DIScourage you from bottoming out because you know they don't take much to actuate
>>51839528
Ahahah no
>>51839578
>muscle memory doesn't exist
git fukt m9
>>51837908
which keyboard is that?
PBT vs ABS is a bigger difference than Mechanical vs Rubberdome
PokerII
>>51839584
>>51839528
so how does muscle memory discourage you from bottoming out?
it's harder to find and remember the actuation point and it's extremely light, so it's easier to bottom out
Reds are like the easiest to bottom out switches there are
>>51839597
yes anon I'll totally believe that two varieties of plastic are a bigger difference than entirely different methods of input
>>51839585
Any tkl look like that modded enough
>>51839597
Jokes on you I have a mixed set on my kb and they are mostly the same
>>51839610
Because it actuates so easily, you will get used to the correct amount of force that's just required to actuate without bottoming out
Has anybody had any success with building a Dactyl keyboard?
I'm tempted to try it out, but it seems like a lot of work, and don't want to start unless others have had success with the models.
>>51839784
that sounds retarded
>>51839856
Maybe you should consider that you're retarded if you cannot grasp such a simple concept
>>51839864
if something requires less of something else, that doesn't make it easier to remember exactly how much it needs, especially on something like pressure
if anything, it makes it way harder
It's harder to bottom out if the spring fights you instead of loosening up like a whore sissy boipucci
Are you a troll?
>>51839784
You're overestimating muscle memory, and misunderstanding how muscle memory works. Your fingers are not going to remember the distance it takes to bottom out a key and then all of a sudden start pushing them less so that you don't bottom out.
It's tactile switches that discourage bottoming out, because your brain associates the tactile bump (and the click as well if they're clicky) with the actuation of the key, and stops your finger when it feels/hears.
Muscle memory relies on triggers and feedback. It does not finely control how far you push down the key.
>>51839918
I really can't tell, I think there's actually people retarded enough to think that way
>>51839022
>>51839150
still better then the mush mush membranes by far
KUL ES-87 or Filco Majestouch-2 TKL ?
I'm looking to buy a mechanical keyboard finally, but I'm not happy with anything I've seen so far.
How come every keyboard with extra macro keys has to have flashing lights and cobra dicks all over them?
Fuck these overpriced, ugly "gaming" keyboards, just give me some extra buttons on an adult keyboard.
>>51840055
Das keyboard.
>>51839990
>KUL ES-87 or Filco Majestouch-2
geekhack org/index.php?topic=70856.0
this'll probably help you the most with the decision
>>51840055
like 80% of the people who want macro keys are GAMES WOO LED RAVE PARTY people
can't you just turn off the backlighting, even though you'll still pay extra for em
>>51840055
the cougar attack & it's clones don't have any of the flashy lights
>>51840069
A giant volume knob and media keys isn't what I had in mind when I said "extra buttons".
>>51840076
It's not just lights, but the whole transformer vibe they give.
>>51840108
Granted that's not a bad looking keyboard, but $250 is too painful.
I've been looking at the Logitech G710+. While it doesn't look exactly "professional", it's also not an affront to nature. The armrest is removable and I guess I could always replace the keycaps to get rid of the grey WASD.
I'm not expecting craftsmanship of the highest quality for $100, but is it at least Okay?
>>51839927
>>51839892
What part of low force required for actuation do you not understand? If you don't need a lot of force to actuate, you will naturally type at a force just sufficient to actuate without bottoming out
Is there a key profile so that the finger can travel from one key to the other without dents?
Like they are all flat with just air between them.
Or something close to it.
>>51840391
I'll just assume you're a troll
>there are people who spend more than 10 euro on a keyboard
>>51840454
and I'll just assume you're retarded and don't even own a linear board
>>51840422
they're literally called flat
>>I really want a ducky mini.
>>Blue switches are completely unavailable.

>>51840466
Nice.
I never saw them on the usual sites, where are they hiding?
>>51840466
Those are called G20
>>51840466
ah nevermind, I start to think they look like crap.
Is there mechanical keyboards that are USB 3.0? Would 3.0 benefit a mkb over a 2.0 mkb?
>>51840551
apparently they're a lot less common than I expected at first and you have to kind of custom order them
>>51840586

>>51840613
try contacting the sellers to see if you can get a deal on a large order of them
So, new question?
are spherical keys (like those vintage replicas set like DSA) easier to casually slide your fingers across than cylindrical?
>>51840630
I'd assume they're harder, because they try to center the fnger in two dimension sin stead of one
Just got my Poker 3 today, love this little thing!
>>51840645
thanks.
>>51840613
>>51840625
Not just that, they're ABS too
Keys gonna get real shiny in a couple months
>rubber dome is 75g
>people claim green are hard
????
if literal housewives can type on rubber dome, how can't you type on greens?
>>51840659
they sell PBT too, for the same 2$
Still I'm not writing them, even at 1$ each it's at least 90 bucks for a TKL
>>51840613
Look for G20 keysets on pimpmykeyboard, those flat keys are not what the picture is.
>>51840659
>>51840680
http://pimpmykeyboard.com/g20-stealth-keycap-set/
>>51840673
>rubber dome is 75g
I'd like to see your source on this claim.
Aside from which, different rubber domes have different weights, dummy. There isn't any universal rubber dome weightings which all keyboard manufacturers adhere to.
>>51840718
I imagine they must make them fairly heavy so they don't feel like they've warn out too quickly.
>>51840617
>http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NY45NCY
I actually really like this. It even has a removable braided cable which I wouldn't expect from a "budget" maker.
Too bad about the bright backlight that can't be adjusted, but for $90 I may learn to live with it.
>>51840702
>all that money spent
and yet, I bet you still lust for a topre

suddenly you have a better keyboard for a tiny bit less
>>51840776
>For the tiny ⇧ Shift, if you are a emacs user, you can also solve it because you don't need to type ⇧ Shift ever. You set emacs to type them by key sequences. I do this, to avoid any key-chords.
> To type CAPITAL LETTERS, you just type normally and press a button that will capitalize the previous character or previous word or current line. See: Emacs: toggle-letter-case.
> To type shifted symbols, you can either turn on Operating System's sticky key feature, or, setup emacs to type them by a key sequence. For how, see: Banish Shift Key.
ahahahah did Richard fucking Stallman wirte this?
Do these people realize one doesn't spend 24hours a day on emacs?
What if god forbid you want to use a browser or write a .doc?
ayy lmao
>>51840939
And we've come full circle.
Macro keys and lights or no Macros or lights.
Besides, the brown version of that keyboard is $100, so a tiny bit more.
>>51841071
>Macro keys and lights or no Macros or lights.
that's because macro keys are stupid and stupid people buy them
stupid people go hand in hand wit flashy razer blackwidows and transformers bluray.
my poker 2 can record macros for up to 14 keystrokes, I could literally program it to type "op is a faggot" with pn+A
>>51841071
Oh I didn't notice you were the same guy, you linked the blue switch full sized version so I gave you the blue switch full sized version, I even double checked to see if it was the correct switches

>>51837559
I'd actually buy this if I needed a small keyboard. 60% keyboards are completely useless in practice since hiding the arrow keys behind a fn layer makes the keyboard too cumbersome for everything except vim autists or people who type at 60 WPM.
Tilde location is a retarded but I'd rather that over not having it at all.
>>51841253
>arrows are related to typing speed
Back the fuck off..?!
>>51841253
The FN key is right where my pinkie is when pressing the arrow keys anyway so it's not a massive deal.

>>51841511
>sideprinted?
That's what it's actually called.
seriously why are topre so goddamn conflicting
I fear I will get an expensive rubber dome and boy do I hate those.
Some say topre are "tactile", some say they can't feel it for shit.
Coming from mx blues, am I spoiled?
I don't care for the click sound, but will my finger FEEL something between top and bottom of the travel?
or is it "linear" except with increasing force?
fuck fuck fuck
>>51841565
Just get the cooler master switch tester with the novatouch switch and try it.
I got it, and within three minutes I knew that my next keyboard would be a topre.
>>51841565
get the CMStorm tester if you can't find a topre board to try locally
The new version changed out the clears for a topre switch
don't just do just a random buy, unless you can return it easily no questions asked
>>51841560
I never use . + * or / off my numpad, so I have no clue where those are, I also practically never use #§^èç{à}¨ù´`£ so I don't know where those are out of my head either
guess I just have a fucked keyboard
>>51841594
I'm the guy about to pull the trigger on the 109€ novatouch itself.
I have 14 days to return it so I will probably just get it, but I will be out of 109€ for at least 20 days and probably be really pissed/disappointed around christmas.
And then if I like it, I need to manage to sell my current keyboard.
>>51840776
you saw my earlier post
>>51841561
That or front-printed.
>>51841632
>60% with a ten-keypad
Why?
>>51841623
I don't think you'll want to return it.
I've considered getting the novatouch, but I'll probably go with the realforce since the keycaps on that are already so perfect that I won't ever have a reason to replace them.
>>51841647
I'm not him, but I guess he likes his keypad on the left for some autistic reason.
>>51841623
I pulled the gun on a blue switch keyboard without testing out switches, if I don't like em, I'll return it & get the switch tester. Might pick up a realforce after that
I doubt you won't have returned it before then if you like it tho
>>51841647
because he likes to be able to use his left hand? or he likes being able to put it away when he doesn't need it?
seems superior
>>51841667
idk maybe he's left handed possibly maybe?
>>51841663
I think topre switches are extremely two sided
I don't think there's people that think they're "okay"
I've only seen people say they're far superior to cherries and people saying they're absolute shit and just expensive rubber domes. No middleground
So you kind of have to get lucky if you do an impulsebuy without testing them
>>51841684
Like I said, autistic.
I had the occasion to test some Realforce keyboards and they were really nice. I like the slightly heavier ones. Also it would be nice to bring the silenced one to my lab.
However, I can pay like 4 rents with the price of one keyboard.
Does it worth it? Will I get hit by the buyer's remorse if I pull the trigger on this one?
>>51842020
>However, I can pay like 4 rents with the price of one keyboard.

>Does it worth it?
is it worth it?*
money value is subjective, and 4 rents makes it clearly "Not worth it" no matter what obese neets will tell you.
>>51842020
>However, I can pay like 4 rents with the price of one keyboard.

>>51841760

Yes and no. The downstroke is basically the same thing, but there is a sharper plastic upstroke clack on the NT compared to the RF. Of course you can silence the NT (as I did) to make it sound even better than a stock RF.
>>51842915
>NT (as I did)
oooh you have a NT?
Did you have mx before? are they tactile?

then first of I'd really recommend you to pick up a switch tester
http://www.cmstore.eu/parts-replacements/peripherals/mechanical-key-switch-tester-v2-free-shipping/
this has red+black (linear) blue + green (clicky) brown (tactile) and topre (some weird high end "rubber dome" & mechanical hybrid some people swear buy
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I0VX4VS
this has red + black (linear) blue (clicky) and brown (tactile), depending on shipping costs this might be cheaper, don't know
It might seem like a lot, but it'll feel better knowing you'll have the optimal switch. You might even be able to weasel out a discount if You decide to buy a quickfire board after buying their switch tester by posting on the forums. I've seen people be succesful with that, because there was a deal like that on US and they asked about bringing it to EU too.
Quickfires & Ducky Zero are the two main go to cherry mx budget boards.

The CODE says that its Cherry MX Clears are 'ultra-rare'.

yeah I just checked, unless you live in US you can't even get them without shipping them over from the US, and even then you're paying almost double of more regular switches
>>51846840
So if I mostly program will the CODE be as great for that as they claim?
I'm torn between that and the WASD v2, because as far as I can tell you can't customise the CODE
>>51846924
There are plenty of people on DT or GH that would be willing to work out a non-painful deal to get switches shipped to you from the US.
As for the prices, I dunno where you checked, but I didn't spend more than 40 bucks for a bag of 60 mx clears.
Granted this was well over a year ago, so maybe they have climbed.
>>51846987
Also where's the best place to buy them for the UK?
>>51846987
I don't believe you have any idea what you are talking about.
First, switch type is entirely preferential, and nothing is "for" a particular purpose (like programming). It's all about what you like best. Second, the only customisation of the WASD is of the keycaps, which you don't want as they're fucking ass. If you want the WASD, buy the barebones variant and an aftermarket keycap set that's actually decent.
>>51846440

Yeah I saw that Ninja. I suppose the keys aren't the biggest concern right now, but I'd like to end up with blank black ones, I guess in this PBT material too rather than ABS.
Although as far as I can tell on that keyboard company website, the Ninja is 6 quid more than the regular but "comes with 2 sets of Windows keys 1 set top printed, 1 set front printed". Does that just mean the keys with the Windows logo on, or a full set of keys? The price makes me think the former but I can't see why that'd be the case.
