What is a cheap mechanical keyboard with mx brown switches or similar (due to sound) which don't look like it's for gaymen. Also I want a full keyboard with numpad
>>
>>51823609
Why are quickfire rapids considered "babby's first kb". Is it because they are cheap? Are they designed shitty?
>>
>>51823609
> no numpad
Must be an apple full sized keyboard.
>>

it's literally the picture for OP. (well the XT variant is full sized)

also good option, ducky zero

Getting into mechanical keyboards /g/, buying a POK3R some time next week, is this okay? I know it's more of a ricer tier keyboard but I don't mind even if it is my first time.

Also, does anyone know here I can get a good separate numpad? One that's minimalistic like the Pok3r, barely any bezels. Pic related, ideally like this (props to whoever has this setup, looks neat)

well known, cheap
other option for babby's first mechanical is the Razer Blackwidow
>>

>>
>>51823687
They're cheap but still of acceptable quality with genuine Cherry switches. A lot of people who buy their first mech will be quite satisfied with one.

Also, it's not a Razer product.
>>
>>51823908
60% have enough keys for basic coding/typing in an otherwise compact package.

Less than that however is indeed impractical preference tier due to spending more for less and having way less aftermarket due to lack of market for them

One key would theoretically be enough too, just extremely impractical. The only reason to want a minimal keyboard is space, which there has been plenty of in all the pictures I've seen. Leading me to believe that it's about looks, form over function.
>>
>>51824447
You use blues or buckling springs or something?
>>
>>51824471
Generally it's also about ergos and convenience i.e. you don't need to move your hands away from the alphanumeric cluster to press the other keys
>>
>>51824471
people also like smaller keyboards because they find it more natural on the elbows & shoulders to have the hands closer together, because the mouse can be closer
>>
>>51824447
Nigga if a bitch is threatening you with divorce over little clicky noises, that relationship is already in the hole. Bail while you still have dignity.

though i'm assuming its a purely fictional story made up so this anon can justify not buying mx blue switches.
>>
>>51824447
If you have to compromise in a relationship I'm sorry to inform you that you're the bitch in the family

Same as people on /k/ complaining about spouses/gfs leaving them if they don't ditch their funs, it shows that your gf simply doesn't care about your preferences and is willing to leave you simply because she disagrees with your tastes and doesn't want to accept it. Especially if you're getting married/already married, such simple objects of contention will lead to a very tumultuous existence
>>
>>51824546
no it's just a common storyline, where a person is living a happy life in the story, when an ultimatum is reached between a reasonable option and an exaggerated option. The story continues from the point where it's already determined the exaggerated option is picked and the other thing has happened, as if it's only logical.

It's meant to show how much you like that thing. I see it on facebook occasionally

For example

>avid model train fan
>get wife
>have children with wife
>daughter turns 14
>tells me I have to get rid of my model trains or she'll run away
so guys, what train sets should I buy now that I'll have an extra room?
>>
>>51824528
>mouse be closer
What the hell kind of mice are you guys using?
I've never heard of this being a thing or seen it,or experienced it. My mouse is right next to my board and i dont have any issues with a full board.
Keyboard is dead center with my monitor as is my chair.
>>
>>51824447
wow im never having kids
>>
>>51824630
I use fullsize too, I'm just reciting what people say.
However I don't think this applies to 40% or 60%. Mostly used with TKL or similar sized keyboards

However, I use two different heights, and looking at it, my mouse is under my keyboard's numpad when centered because I find it to be the most comfortable position

mousemat goes from my arrow keys to a handspace next to my keyboard on the right, so I kind of can see what they're getting at
>>
>>51824366

>>51825315
I only like that color scheme if its on an actually old keyboard desu. I'm not one for nostalgia.

Or you know, just go with what you like because color is entirely personal preference except when getting (you)s on /g/.
>>
>>51825291
Not sure mate, I like the vibrance of the Christmas styling but the b+w seems boring to me, I'd prefer for it to be more colourful or just straight black keycaps. I don't own a mech yet but buying my first (pok3r) soon, default white then keycaps soon after :^)

It's an eternal struggle. On one hand, making it match the modifier colour avoids the visual break. On the other, it's not consistent with the function.

This is why I am sinking my life savings into R5a, so I can get a near-perfect visual layout (in two years).

buying a tester is for people who can't go test keys. the main types are red blue & brown
If you don't like any of those, I doubt you'd like black greens or clears. So that just leaves alternatives like alps or topres.

CMStorm sells a tester with red black blue green brown & topre. They also sometimes offer you a discount on their keyboards if you show you bought the tester. But I wouldn't take that discount for granted, just something you can try. They've done it in the past for US and they've done it in EU for someone that asked on the forums about it

>>
>>51826573
US has it very easy for mechanical keyboards, so I'd assume so does canada. I think you have a lot of choice of keyboards if you just chose it because of the size & price

If you picked it for other reasons, I still prefer the alternative rapid shown in the OP
http://www.amazon.ca/QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B007VDKLLM/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449950814&sr=1-6&keywords=ducky

but that's just personal preference.

Canada definitely has it better than Europe, though shipping from the States and the weak CAD make it not ideal.
>>
>>51826769
>Who says that? Where?
I don't remember, some random forum post
like half said they were equal, another half said the ducky was slightly better & like 2-3 said the CMStorm quickfire was better

like I said, I doubt there's much difference.

you could do worse
I was skeptical of the kailh switches and i didn't like the keyboard style where switches are just mounted ontop of the board, but other than that I really like it

I was considering it, but there were no sellers in EU I could find and there simply were better options.

hope it works out for you

Story time /mkg/?

So I have (too) many keyboards. One I never had in my collection was a das or Cherry Browns. I got a good deal on a used one and it arrived last week. The only problem is the LEDs were acting flaky. I soldered new ones in and they continued doing it. I contacted Das to see about getting ahold of another controller and was told they don't offer replacement parts. At all. Any of them. I wrote tech support back and forth before I gave up and de-soldered all three LEDs, but I'm gonna sell it anyway. The outrageous claims they make comparing it to the bulletproof model M (not to mention you can get EVER part ever made for one from Unicomp or Clickykeyboards). So just my two cents - save your money for a company with actual fucking support.

On that link you can bundle everything you need in that menu. Or use the optional stuff as a list to shop around for lower prices. For diodes it's just personal preference of which one they offer. And resistors if you plan to use LED's.

Or for a non pcb project you can find some guides on deskthority.net They mostly have keyboards. Just slim the guides down for a numpad layout.

Like I said earlier, your heroic defense of this shit heap company only confirms my suspisions that you have one and can't come to terms with the fact that they suck. Apparently not enough boards to get the part you need.

How can you not accept that telling you no,is an unacceptable idea. They dont want to sell parts indiviually. Most likely linked to how they MASS produce product. They sell one piece of XXXX they need to make another to fill it in,now they have to sell single pieces etc etc.

I dont have a DAS.I know they arent what i expect of a keyboard.Seems like you didnt know what you wanted

A car is not a special order niche piece of machinery. You dont NEED a mechanical keyboard, and depending on which country you live in,you NEED a car.
How many millions of cars are produced of a single type.
Now how many specialty keyboards are made of a series? 100? 500? 1000?
Bitching about a niche company not selling his niche keyboard part,is beyond retarded.Would it have been nice if they did? Yes.Is it ok to throw a fit about it,and claim the entire company is shit cause you didnt get your way? No.

Mechanicfag here and your analogy is completely shit. Not to mention no one has ever produced "millions". The closest is the original beetle, and even they had many updated parts and nuances between the YEARS. The difference is that automakers produce parts for 10 years after the manufacturing date. Anyway, it's irrelevant. They built a shit load more than "1000" keyboards.

Honestly I hate my 60%, I'll never get another. They're only decent for gaming for me because they occupy so little space. I can adjust how it's positioned to play games better than a larger keyboard. For programming or really any kind of work it's a giant pain in the ass, even with the function layer that doesn't make it easier than just having a dedicated button for certain keys.
