First of all, I usually use Arch.
When I don't, I use Debian. There's no reason, at least for myself, to use a derivative just for the sake of the initial default setup. But then again, I tinker. Most people want their setup to be ready out of the box. For me, default Debian desktop with gnome shell fulfills that need.

disabled the basics i didnt need like sshd, bluetooth etc. it idles at 0.8% cpu and 500mb mem. never crashed.
