I'm looking to upgrade my rig and was planning to put an extra Radeon HD 5770 in along with my GTX 770. Any problems that i would run into or any tips that can help me?

Yes

Well, for one, Nvidia cards will disable themselves if they detect an AMD card in the other slot. Also, if you do not have a crossfire or SLI compatible motherboard, your GPU will run at PCIE 8x speed (half speed)

If you do have xfire/SLI compatibility and if you had 2 incompatible cards of the same brand, you could install something like ASTER or Softxpand and you could have two people use your one computer for "LAN" play with eachother, each with their own login session and their own screen/kb/mouse

An way to get around the Nvidia block? If not what cards can you recommend that are around the same price as the 5770 and would work nicely with the 770?

You mustn't

it's never been done, it has been predicted to bring about the end of times

OP here, any chance i can use a different GTX card and my 770?
>>
>>51835660
What do you want to use it for? Moar monitors, or improved performance?

If you want it for performance, it has to be a 770.

You actually WANT to summon cthulhu?

I was looking to increase performance, if i do add another card are there motherboards that would work well with dual 770's and also would a CPU upgrade be in order?
>>
>>51835723
What mobo and CPU do you have?
>>
>>51835768
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.40 GHz
Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
>>
>>51835786
Then SLI isn't worth it. Sell the 770, buy a 390/970. You will be somewhat CPU limited, so that along with the mobo will be the next thing to upgrade.
>>
>>51835821
Is the 770 inferior to the 970? or would i be better off just upgrading the mobo and CPU?
>>
I used to do two 6870s in crossfire and a dedicatged physx 9800gt. felt really weird.
>>
>>51835968
2x770 is a little faster than single 970 or R9 390 for now, but is expected to fall behind as RAM requirements increase and games start using DX12.

How much can you spend? What region?
>>
>>51835991
I'm looking to spend no more than $400 on a GPU as a i have to leave room for other components. I'm located in the US
>>
>5770

that card isn't supported, and the only platform you'd be able to do this stuff on are DX12 games specifically coded for this. so far the only game that actually does is ashes of the singularity and it isn't even out yet.

Buy 390 / 970 now, save the rest for CPU/mobo, cheapest sensible upgrade IMO would be something like an i5 4440 + B85 mobo, for a total of ~230, or if you want SLI as an option, 4440+cheap SLI capable Z97 board, ~$250, or if you also want overclockability, 4690K + mid range z97 board, ~$320.

I think you misunderstand. Even IF nvidia cards didn't block themselves, you would still have two incompatible cards that could not function on the same driver level.

You'd be using one or the other. They can't crossfire/sli. Not yet, anyways.

No they don't, at least not the one I have.
