okay now that the humor is out of the way

does anyone here actually watch things in 720p and 1080p?

its pretty much a meme, right? i mean theres literally no difference between 480p and anythting higher. if anything, the picture becomes too sharp sometimes that it actually _REMOVES_ from the video that im watching. like no thank you, i dont want to see your acne or your fuzzy moustache. its redundant.

anyone else??
>>
Oh please. I would put a 720p and 1080p video side by side and you wouldn't be able to tell
>>
>>51833828
Agreed. YIFY quality is objectively flawless. In fact it's so good that it's better than watching the movie in a cinema.

i usually download 720p blu-ray rips that include commentary

feels good being apart of a great movie tracker
>>
>h.264

This is like downloading XviD videos after 2005.
>>

Your poorfaggotry is showing
>>
>>51833874
No it's not. H.264 is a good codec with high compatibility and mature encoders. H.265 is still meme-tier at this point, and will remain so till around end of next year.

You have access to master copies of new release movies you can make your own 4K dumps of? Wow that's cool. Please do share.

>implying there isn't plenty of 4k content
>implying bandwidth or storage is a problem for someone who isn't poor
>implying you can't see a difference from 1080p on screens larger than 60 inches

Video quality is determined by source and what CRF parameter was used.

Assuming the source is a blu-ray disc and a CRF of 16 or lower was used then quality will be very high. Different sources require different bitrates and so bitrate alone is not a good metric of video quality. 16 CRF 1080p animu might only need 2 Mbps of bitrate on average for example.

this board is for grow ups though

>>51834157
man vomit_chan you are so smart, thanks for telling us video quality is dependant on a combination of bitrate and crf level, your knowledge on video codecs is unparalleled and you have truly added a whole new dynamic to this discussion. I'd like to see you comment on smartphone SoCs mainly though because that's your #1 area of expertise where you truly know what you're talking about and have valuable, objective information to impart.
>>
>>51834338
Sure thing hitler.
>>
>>51834394
What I was trying to say is bitrate shouldn't be used to judge video quality. I'm as stupid as the rest of you so if you could correct me then it would make us all better informed.
>>
>>51833479
Video bitrate isn't a good indicator of quality. Why did you chose 8mbps anyway? Why not 7mbps, 21mbps, or 5.192373mbps?
>>
>>51834635
He chose that specific bitrate because he's a faggot. Real men use bitrates above 24mbps for 1080p.
>>
>>51834705
>not using bitrates above 50Mbps
You're as much of a faggot as he is.
>>
>>51833828
Depends. If the 720p source is very high quality but the 1080p if yify quality then the 720p source might even look better on the same 1080p screen.

Most of the older anime I torrent comes in 720p and actually looks good for 720, pleasantly surprised. I'm not that anal about having every single pixel crystal-clear, but still, I don't notice any pixelation unless I get up close to my TV, and even on a monitor it looks pretty good. I would prefer 1080 but if all the remaining torrents are 720 I'm fine with it.

We already found the best 265 encoding settings for anime. Its not even reached its final form.
Its the beginning of the end for 264.

HEVC will surpass H.264 at one point, but right now it's not worth it or it's inferior depending on source.
