Honestly, I see just as many thinkpads as I do macbooks these days. I work IT at UNCH and most of the networking dudes run either macbooks or elitebooks, and all but a small handful of the generic IT grunts (myself included) use a thinkpad of some form or another.
I'm a cheap motherfucker so I bought a lenovo outlet x140e and it does everything I need it to do, despite being modern lenovo its a really solid little netbook.

GNU is to linux as firefox is to linux: userland cruft some hipster thinks is an essential part of an operating system.
At the most it's (yourinitsystem)/linux. If your init system is GNU, then maybe it is GNU/Linux, but not many people use dmd.

Currently I'm using a cheap desktop with some upgrades for both work and leisure, with a cheap but decent 23" monitor. OSX for work, Windows for vidya. No place for Linux on the desktop, in my view.
If I had to switch to a tiny slow laptop running an awful OS, I would be far less productive and more frustrated at work and wouldn't be able to enjoy video games.
And the only benefit would be a slightly cleaner desk.

As meme as this is, I actually just did this. I realized I don't really play video games on my PC anymore and didn't have a use for the MSI laptop I had. Sold that and bought an X201 for $100. All I needed is a portable word processor and occasional movie watching machine.
