Less cores = less energy and heat?
Just set my g3 to 3 cores instead of 4 and it's still running very smooth, will I see an improvement in battery life with one core disabled, or will the work being done on the 3 remaining cores cause worse battery life?
I'd imagine the phone would run quite cooler with one core disabled though.
Also, phone battery life thread, let's discuss our battery life, phone usage, and what we've done to achieve that.
My battery life is 4.5 hours SoT, browsing /g/, listening to music, random web searches, just general light use, on 4g.
Using fulmics rom and gabriels kernel.
Cpu governor: darkness
Hotplug: alucard
Gpu governor: simple
Undervolted and cpu running at 1.9ghz instead of 2.5ghz because it used to get quite warm.

it'll only affect multitasking. some programs will take longer to resume from a sleep state.
Interesting, I have one hour sot right now, just browsing 4chan.
I must say that the g3's screen eats up alot of battery, but when I'm just listening to music, it lasts me about 1,5-2 days
Running chupachups rom 3.0, forgot what kernel.
Scheduler: fiops
Governor: Interactive
It's all I need, would run other android roms if it weren't for the retarded quick options they use.

I'm using about 0.5% per hour in standby, not sure about SoT because I never measured it. I figure as long as the screen itself is on, that's the biggest battery hog and there's not much I can do to change that other than lower the brightness to the point I can't see.
Then again I'm still on an old piece of shit with a 1.7 GHz dual core.

Op here, I've always enjoyed fiddling with settings to see what I can improve or fuck up, so I guess for me enough just isn't enough.
Usually i get an hour SoT by around 86%

Lower clocks and core count doesn't necessarily mean lower overall power consumption.
Look up race -to-idle.

I only reduced my clock speed to decrease temps though.

Took this screenshot earlier today but I've charged my phone since then
My screen was lowest brightness setting for most of the usage

No, OP.
*Fewer* cores = less energy and heat.

It won't really matter. The kernel parks unused cores anyways. All you're really doing is making your phone less powerful.
