I'm gonna do a build for my dad with this, trying to make a semi-monster for under $400 that he can't find any way to make run slowly (at least not for the next 4-5 years). I've played with one and it was very fast and had no trouble with HD graphics just using the onboard. Also did well when I opened a bunch of tabs of very javascript heavy and clunky websites. I don't know that people have noticed but the javascript used as heavily as it is now actually means that decent computers of 5 years ago can't handle the web.
Heck, I might build two and use one myself, my computer is very close to the end of its lifetime.
But if you want to game, too many games require 4 cores now for it to really be practical.

It isn't a top performer either though, it's outperformed in everything but iGPU but the outgoing 4790K.
The only reason I'd have recommened Skylake prior to the bend issue was is someone was building a new system from scratch as DDR3 is a poor choice in that regard - but with the bend issues and the fact that they're using thermal paste again instead of solder between the die and IHS has mean't that recommending skylake for any desktop system is a bad idea.
It's still fine for Laptops and the better iGPUs work wonders there too.
Right now the best CPU to buy is the 5820K.

3770k was very tiny bump from 2600k/2700k and it's average overclock was 4.2Ghz or 4.5Ghz if you hit the silicon lottery while also watercooling. 4690k is an easy 4.5ghz chip and the 4790k is an easy 4.7ghz chip.

If you have a 2500k with good watercooling (240mm rad) or D15 aircooler and great case airflow you can easily get a good 4.2 to 4.5ghz overclock. This only really helps for games though.
