Does anyone know of a good old school 256 color icon set for Linux. Similar in style to the icons in IRIX, NeXTStep, or CDE?

Bump for interest

The glossy new icon sets look weird with WindowMaker, FVWM, or MWM. Faience, for instance looks great on, say, Gnome or KDE. Not so great on older WMs.

There was a guy on NekoChan making new icons in the IRIX style, but I don't think he ever finished them (or posted any of the ones he did finish).

I do too. Sadly he hasn't posted in the thread since like 2010.

If you do PM him, and he's cool with sharing the icons, tell him to post them on the the forum. I'd like to grab them too.

If you can't find one, you can use CDE itself now since it's free.

I've thought the same thing though, I wonder if there's a way you can pull the icon sets from older versions of current DEs like KDE, Xfce or GNOME?

CDE is a bitch to build though, at least in my experience. Is it any distro's repos? Also, if I'm being honest, it's my least favorite of the one's I mentioned.

I think there's a way to pull the icons from IRIX, but I don't have any SGI gear to try.

Not sure, all I know of is distros that have it pre-installed like CDEbian. I personally just use Solaris to get my fix.

There are some anons lurking around here with SGI hardware, maybe we can summon one.
