I've worn out two NiMH AAAs using it. Seems like it'll last at least another decade or so.
>>
Bought a sansa clip +

pretty cool but I ended up just using spotify

Sansa clip was the only mp3 that lasted more than one season of crosscountry
>>
No regrets here, still rock solid
>>
Is there a decent replacement for the clip+ yet?
I just want a tiny cheap mp3 player.
>>
It's not a meme if you aren't retarded:

http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/sansa-clip-measured.html

Obviously now it's way overpriced, but that's because it you didn't buy it years ago, you have to pay the faggot tax.
>>
Is sansa clip jam any good?
>>
Still have my 4gb iPod mini from 2005, original battery pack and all. Only thing from Apple I own.

It just werks.
>>
>>51796656
No.
>>
Mine needs replacing after about 7 years. Headphone input crackles too much. What a servant though. I just have literally thrown it out of bed onto wooden floor 200 times after falling asleep listening to it. Often woke up with a clip shaped mark from sleeping on it. I'll get another. Virtually indestructible.
>>
>>51796573
Well the fiio m3 might be good.
>>
>>51796707
that can be fixed with an iron and some more solder brah, so long as you can open it up to get to the headphone jack

>>

Unfortunately they're actually out of production and now stupidly expensive.
>>
>>51795707
You were supposed to buy the Jam, not the Sport.
>>
>>51796925

No way! How is the most recent model?

I might have to get it fixed instead. I only use it in bed, so little movement to cause the crackling noise. I suspect it will get worse though.
>>
>>51797087
The Clip Jam seems to have a similar display and UI to the Clip+ but with a longer battery life. No third-party firmware support, but I have never had a problem with the official firmware of both the original Clip and Clip+ (I believe people exaggerate terribly on the subject), and quite like the simplicity of it. I do not find the added features of Rockbox necessary at all.
>>
I just got my Fiio M3 in the mail and holy shit, this little thing sounds great. Sounds a lot better than my clip, and the build quality is solid.
>>
>>51797246
That's because you're dealing with autists who need to modify everything, rockbox on it is pretty shit actually
>>
Bought a Clip+ for like $30 off ebay, and a cheap 120gb card. It's great, only one complaint is the Rockbox UI is a bit of a pain to use compared to my old iPod. But those cost so much to repair now.

>>

this is extraordinarily common on ebay and chink shit sites btw. They buy a small card, change the firmware, put a different sticker on it, and sell it at a markup to its real cost, but cheap for the size it's labeled as. They're gambling that 98% of normies won't use the whole capacity and/or won't complain when it fucks up.

it's a lemon market (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Market_for_Lemons) and memory cards/flash drives are something you have to buy from reputable places at something resembling full price.
>>
>>51797810
yeah I'm aware of them, but after trying to fill it with music I used a low-level formatter, which still showed the capacity as 64gb, yet the formatting process slowed to pretty much a stop (like when transferring files) when it got to the ~10gb mark
I would've presumed any mislabelled cards would be 8gb ones (since I've never heard of a 10gb sd card)

formatting and partitioning won't help, they fuck around inside the device's firmware to change what size it reports. gparted, fdisk, format, mkfs, and so on then take it at its word. When last I looked into it you needed a special utility to twiddle bits in the thing's firmware.

Why 10GB, and not 8 or 16? Who knows. Maybe the card had some overprovisioning or something going on. Maybe it was supposed to be a 16GB die but 6GBs was defective, and they set it to only report the first 8GB. Maybe a lot of things.

>>51797882
Sandisk is the most commonly faked brand since they sell for more money than generics. If you're gonna buy chink shit you want to *avoid* sandisk and buy off-brand for that reason. you still might get a scammed one though. really what you need to do is buy it from Newegg or somewhere.
>>
>>51797964
>Sandisk is the most commonly faked brand since they sell for more money than generics.
I meant buy an official Sandisk one from Amazon or something. There's really no reason to go for a chink SD card.

>>
>>51798188
I bought the sport. It werks good and I am satisfied. It is considered undesirable because you cannot install rockbox. I have never used rockbox and have no opinion on that. I think the sport will be cheaper than the clip+ iirc.
>>
>>51798188
clip+
>>
>>51798370
Also doesn't support ogg vorbis.
>>
>>51798388
>sport doesn't support vorbis
What the fuck? The sandisk players had great codec support in the past.
>>
>>51798405
I think they only did when they were rockboxed (although I could be mistaken) which is why it's shit that the new ones can't use rockbox.
>>
>>51798429
I'm pretty sure the clip+ and clip zip supported mp3, aac, wma, FLAC, and Vorbis OOTB.
>>
>>51798440
is clip+ expandable by 64gig micro SD, is there a limit? can i put a 128Gb in this thing.
>>
>>51798986

>>
>>51798986

>>51799183
You just have to format it as FAT.
>>
So does the sansa clip+ support expandable memory and .m3u playlists? If so I'll buy one right now. Need something to take trail bike riding and I don't have any old phones.
>>
>>51797772
I got mine off Amazon for $25 or so during a sale. Just keep your eyes peeled for deals and don't buy Chinese knockoff trash.
>>
I have one, great for the gym. dropped it hella times, internals are loose inside, still works had it for 2 years, got it for $30.
>>
>>51799696
Yes to expandable memory. 64GB for sure, probably 128GB.

Probably yes to .m3u playlists. If you put rockbox on it I think that supports .m3u playlists.

And you definitely want to put rockbox on it.
>>
>>51799696
It has both internal memory and a microsd slot for expanding it. 128GB cards can be used if you format them as FAT.
Don't know about m3u support as I don't use them.
>>
>>51798283
Audiophilia is a mental disorder.
>>
So, since the + is expensive as fuck in europe, are the jam or sport or whatever recent models any good?
Don't care about rockbox, will just use the stock firmware.
What I'm looking for is good battery life and good build quality (and sound not being shit)
>>
>>51797772

Any other recommendations for mp3 players other than the Sansa Clip+(can't even buy used from my country)? Is the Sport good? Other brands?

>battery still lasts me 5-6 days
I'm fearing the day this thing dies. Working with iTunes is painful, but i love my iPod. I think having a standalone mp3 player is nice, you can leave your phone at home when going for a walk and spent some time without any distractions.
>>
>>51795707
It's the absolute best meme I fell for. The only downside is that the jack connector falls off every single time, and it's a bitch to solder back.

There is no other good alternative for now sadly. I'm hoping the miniaturization of singleboard computers continues until I can slap a battery to one and make a tiny as fuck MP3 player.

Got a clip + and the ATH m50 meme.

Smashed the m50. Lost that tiny Shit piece of mp3 player somewhere.

Fuck u /g/
>>
>>51795707
I got an original one, the first of the series. It rocks, especially with rockbox. Great little thing, it's a great example of good software on a good platform.

Then I bought a clip sport.

God fucking dammit what a handicapped, useless, overhyped piece of shit that is.

It's like they intentionally fucked it up just to make it bad. Even the most basic fucking shit about it is all wrong, it doesn't even have folder shuffle or anything. I'd feel ashamed if I was one of the morons who wrote the software for shit like that and a whole lot of other current day devices.

>>
>>51810110
Nobody recommends them anymore because they proved such great value for money that Audio Technica did the same thing that any company would, and they cranked up the price.

They kept selling, so they cranked up the price again.
Welcome to capitalism.

The M50's were only ever recommended because they were reasonably cheap, and were very good headphones for the money.
If you can find them for around $100, then they really are great headphones for that kind of money.

I got mine for £60 from a local retailer that was going bust. No complaints here. The pads that came with them lasted 2 years on my sweaty ass head before I decided to replace them.
>>
>>51810287

>>
>>51810297
I felt I should expand, to avoid the spreading of misinformation and memeing further than is necessary.

/g/ could really do with some Nazi mods to clear /v/ out, get this back to actual discussion of technology. Not Homescreens and Desktops.

Hell, even these headphone threads need to go.
/g/ was never good, but it was never this bad.
>>
>>51796676
