What happened to VIA?
Why are they not around anymore? I'm an ausfag and I want to buy a VIA system that isn't a shitty ddr2 system for the price of an i3.
Do they still make processors?
My motherboard uses VIA HD Audio so I know they're still making something at least.

What the fuck. Not even Intel picks names this jewish.
>>
I bought a friends prebuilt base (he paid 1.5k for it in 2012, I paid 300) anyway, the MOBO came with a VIA HD Audio Soundcard. It is some of the worst sound I have ever heard. Ever. It is so bad I am using my G330 Headset USB just to get decent sound.
>>

they're still around.

but mostly not visible anymore (in US) because of
>muh x86 patents

My via hd audio sounds decent though.
I know my old mobo had better sound quality but it's not significantly worse. Or at least not enough to bother me.

LOL

NIce try VIA, you aren't fooling anyone. Seriously, a VIA chip better than AND? Not to mention Intel, seriously, fucking hell VIA you aren't ffoling anyone here.

Better at what? Wasting electricity?

It might not outclass AMD or Intel in every way, it does look like a decent low power processor.
I'd buy one if priced appropriately.
I'd set it up to watch movies and anime and shit on my telly. It'll be much better than a pi.

The solutions provided by VIA and the likes are heavily dependent on how the motherboard manufacturer handles it. The best audio chip in the world will not help you if you put it on top of the 12v power going to your PCIe slots.

that last time i used a VIA cpu was an ... experience

this was back in about 2006 or so, it was some extremely cheap prebuilt, which had a via c7 (iirc) cpu, it was horrendously slow, despite being "2GHz", it was running windows xp and i swear it felt like i was using a pentium 1 233MHz box
>>
>>51795275
also, if you need something really cheap, get a second hand intel/amd box, and upgrade it a bit as needed

for example, a core2+/athlon x2+ machine with a $50 ssd will go a long way for a cheap average use box

>>51795332
I still have my old i7 870 and phenom 8450, I wanted a VIA too before they disappeared completely but it doesn't look like that could happen anymore.

VIA bought Cyrix a long time ago. This is why they have x86 processors. I don't think any of the original Cyrix guys have been employed by Via for decades. Realtek swallowed most of VIA's marketshare which is why you don't see them anymore.
>>
>>51793747
My laptop has via hd sound and its sounds exactly same like my desktop which has realtek

very

>>51796874
I thought VIA bought centuar technologies?
>>
>>51796929
from my experience Realtek has overall clearer, crisper sound, be it laptop or desktop. Via seems to have more of a solid bass output than realtek, but a lower overall sound output level, and in some cases muddier sound. lastly, you can get about +6 dB if you turn on and turn up all the EQ sliders on a Realtek chip without losing sound quality.
>>
>>51796953
It looks like VIA bought Cyrix and Centuar in 1999. I guess they found out the hard way you can't compete with Intel's bottomless piggybank.
>>
>>51797192
They still have an active x86 license though, there is still hope.
Please tell me so ;_;
