I've got a PSP, I planned on getting it for emulation.
It's kinda shitty. The resolution is really awkward at 480x272 which means nothing scales right. Games always tend to look ugly on the PSP. Also remember that pretty much every PSP model has screen issues, including the 2000's ghosting and the 3000's "scanlines".
The emulation quality is kind of a pain too. The PS1 emulator is great since it's developed by Sony and the PS1's architecture is similar, but anything else is kind of weak. It's not unexpected for the SNES emulator to need a fairly high frameskip, especially on expansion chip games.
When I use my PSP, I use it for PSP and PS1 games. I have other shit elsewhere.

OP, I recently got a PSP-1001 for free because the original owner was too stupid to replace the swollen battery. I've never owned a PSP in my life because the game library never appealed to me, jailbreaking scene went completely over my head.
Updated it, stuck in an 8GB SD card in Duo Pro adapter, executed some program that makes it jailbroken, playing all these goddamn games like nobody's business.
Emulating NES, SNES, Game Gear, Master System, Genesis, Game Boy holy fuck. This is what I wanted all along.
I didn't even realize you could play PS1 games on the fucking thing. Loaded that shit up with Parappa and Final Fantasy as soon as I found out. Runs natively on the system without tinkering with stupid shit. Also running all these PSP ROMs right from the memory card so I don't have to use that dumbass mini-disc drive.
I can't fucking believe I missed out on all of this.
One problem though, battery life is shit (~2-4 hours). I bought a generic one on eBay, maybe you'll do better with a Sony battery, or just keep it plugged most of the time.

Later PSP models have much better battery life.
It's a power hungry thing though, and might not charge over USB.
