Hello /g/, let's have a TV thread

I've decided to get a new TV for christmas, both for me and my parents. Currently I'm looking at the LG LF6350 model.

Anyway. The TV 43", 60hz. This model actually upscales to 120hz via that trumotion technology LG loves to boast about, but I'm aware it's not truly a 120hz refresh rate and that it increases input lag. My parents will mostly use it for netflix and blurays, while I'll use it for blurays and consoles. Should I actually bother going for a 120hz, since no console game runs at such resolution?

I'm also completely open for suggestions and discussions, of course

Plasma always

What. It's the refreshrate.

If you're going for a 43' - FHD smart TV. I suggest looking at the Sony Bravia 705C or 805C. The 805 has '800hz' - Sony calls it Motionflow XR, something by inserting extra frames between the original ones. - Will probably reduce ghosting and makes watch sports etc smoother.
The 705C is an older model. Still good if you're on a budget.

I myself have a Sony Bravia 43' 808C. It's great.

There's also Samsung with the EUJ5500 something. It's cheaper than the Sony. Less premium looking. And overal lacking some stuff. But a good deal.

Ohyeah.
The Sony line has a low input lag, so if you plan to use a console with it, it's great.
The Samsung is also pretty good, but uses automatic backlight in gaming mode. Changing screens brightness to the games content. Annoying.
>>
>>51773714
120hz is artificial. Upscaling 24p from movies to it never made sense to me.
>>
All i want is just a 120 Hz 42-48 inch with Android TV (muh kodi). i don't care for anything else.
>>
>>51774008
The sony runs on Android TV.
>>
>>51773941
Sorry, I derped, meant refresh rate. Still, since most games run at 60hz outside of pc gaming, should I care at all about 120hz? The only sports I watch are formula one and the WRC
>>
>>51774334
Probably not much. But if you play fast paced games/shooters/racing games you will have noticeably less blur.

If there's a TV in the same price range with a higher refresh rate. Go for that.
>>
I am not good with TVs, recommend me the best, cheapest and if possible biggest TV /g/
>>

>>51773941
I see. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into it. I'm still pretty early at the research process, really
>>
>>51774868
What's your budget? The LG is around 500 EUR if I look up the 43' model. If that's your top the Sony TV's are out of question probably. Only the old 705C model is maybe in range.
>>
>>51773918
I bet you also buy CRT screens, you raging faggot
Plasma is SHIT. It heats up like a motherfucker, and thus uses tons of more energy than usual, it can't be used in confined spaces, it fades away with time, it suffers from burn-in... but hey, *MUH BLACKS*...

There's a reason they've stopped making them.

Only a complete /g/tard would stoop down so low to recommend an average user a goddamn type of TV which isn't even produced anymore.
>>
>>51775146
>implying you can't get cheap plasma now that all the dentists are buying smart 4k memescreens

What's the matter, afraid to buy used?
>>
>>51775283
>used plasma
No, I'm not afraid to buy used.
I'm just not stupid enough to buy used.
>>
>>51773918
Yeah don't buy Plasma, had a Plasma it was a heater in my room
>>
OP here. Of course I won't buy plasma, why would I pay for something that uses a shitton more energy and has burn-in problems? That's why it wasn't in my original post in the first place, it's not an option
>>
>>51773714
I have old LG 32 inch with IPS alpha panel that does 1080p with 60Hz refresh rate.
Viewing angles are insane and with calibration the picture is amazing.
Enjoy your smart tv bs I am fucking set till thing dies.

This.

Viewing classic movies especially really makes beautiful picture. Un-fucking-beatable.
>>
>>51775146
Have you even viewed media from a good plasma?
>>
Honestly... does anyone *need* a smart TV?
In many cases, support ends rather quickly... on some TVs you can't use Skype anymore, nor YouTube, or any other crap. "App Stores" also kill off support. It's like buying a large tablet.

Save your money and get any TV that has good specs and a long lasting reputation. After that, you can convert your TV into a smart TV any time, just purchase an HDMI android stick, or an android TV box, or build an old HTPC, or whatever.
>>
>>51777704
Yes. And it's great, but really not worth it anymore... I mean, CRTs have really good blacks, do they not?

Get a cheaper version and get yourself a good android tv box / mini tower (I like the MSI J1900i celeron j1900 quad core mobo + cpu combo, cheap and super fast) which will provide you wayyy more functionality and power than a smart TV at about the same power consumption (j1900 consumes like 7 watts or smth)
>>
>>51777801
Fuck my parents got a smart TV a few years ago and honestly I should have helped them just do this. Goddamn why am I retarded.
>>
>>51777853
They probably wouldn't have accepted it anyway, old heads are extremely resistant to input from their kids due to insecurity about how much they know, don't beat yourself over it.

When will /g/ fall for the curve tv meme?
>>
>>51777715
pretty much everything but the low quality crap nowadays has smart capabilities

No one is making you use it, and except for maybe a few buttons on the remote, you won't notice it either. At least on my Vizio set
>>
>>51779013
See it might actually make sense to use a 4K curved TV as a monitor though, since they're so damn huge. Curved TV's only start at 55" so if you're only around 5 feet from the screen, it makes sense to have the TV wrap around you. Like that 55" 4K curved OLED LG makes would actually be cost effective compared to having like 3 of the curved ultrawide monitors. Sure as hell wouldn't want a curved TV as a TV unless the TV was 100"+, which by then I'd just get a projector.

Am I still fucked?
>>
>>51779952
oh, at that distance it could be a shitty 1366x768 thing and still look ok, you're good. Unless you're planning to read alot of text on it, then you are fucked
