Are the temperatures worse?
Is performance under load drastically different?
You might be fine, otherwise you'd need to delid, reapply TIM, and relid, which is either impossible or very difficult. so cross your fingers.

Lol I was on a budget too. Only cheaper out on my processor, an 8320. It was 130 bucks 3 years ago so u couldn't pass it up. I just wanted to start gaymen. Since then, my whole system has failed more times than I can count. 2 gpus failed and died on me. RMA the psu and mobo before the failures and now I'm down to one gpu left. Mobo is fucked too and I'm not even sure how this pc still functions. I regret not saving more for the Intel. Just gonna sell my 8320 and spend an extra 80 bucks on a 4690k. Selling my psu as well since it's still worth at least 100 and going evga or antec. After all I've spent on this build, it's more than what the Intel equivalent would've been over the years.

you should have put a pea sized thermal paste on the CPU and then attached heatsink.
if any is leaking out, just wipe it carefully with a paper towel or napkin.
if your temps are too high, check your fan speeds. if they are still too high, you need a aftermarket cooler, such as a cooler master 212+ evo

Lol I wish, I'm skinny as fuck. I honestly don't know what was up with my main build. Other PCs I've put together all ran flawlessly to this day. Maybe 1 or 2 cases of someone getting a virus etc etc but hardware wise, nothing has ever failed me. For all my builds I always use an Intel chip. Celerons/pentiums for Facebook machines and xeons/i7s for workstation grade computers. There was only 1 person that was desperate to game and asked me to find something in the budget. Got him an fx cpu 6 or 4 core, and a 7950 back before bitcoin took off for 180 bucks. 600 total for that particular computer.
Do what in the fuck could be wrong with my main system? I'm just done with amd cpus for now, their gpus are good though.

Its not thermal paste.
Could it be that your computer won't POST at all without a GPU? Check that your error isn't just because it's missing a video adaptor.
