For quick edits I use notepad++ or vim.

I personally use Gedit but Geany is like the same at a basic level and windows builds exist of it.

I need an alternative that lets me close and reopen with the same tabs, even tabs that aren't saved to a file. Sublime did this but then I moved to N++ because muh freedums.

Komodo saves tabs, but sadly not unsaved tabs. it asks you to save or discard changes when you exit

Sublime for when I can't use IDE

sublime is really nice but i use vim most of the time, never tried emacs and don't really like notepad++, feels too bloated
>>
>>51770116
>>51770357
VS Code isn't even a proper general-purpose text editor, it just does a few very specific languages sort of well (cause it comes pre-configured to do so) while looking hideous and being slow.

It lacks the broad selection of languages and plugins, which is t doesn't replace a real text editor like sublime, vim or emacs. Anything you can do in VSC, other editors can do better.

Brackets or Netbeans for me, depends on which one I want to use. Brackets for quick edits and netbeans at the office.
>>
>>51767130
That functionality would require saving the contents of tab to a file or else the data would be lost. What you are really asking for is for all unsaved tabs to be saved to some cache file at some location automatically, which sounds like pretty horrible behavior.

Sublime and Geany are the only two editors that allow you to set commandline arguments for both scripting languages and compiled languages to compile/run within the editor itself unlike babby Notepad++ where you have to go to the console. Geany does this particularly well
>>
>>51772389
Well that's a meager advantage compared with all the downsides.

Notepad, I guess.
>>

Npp is pretty much a portable and light weight IDE when configured, and its nicer to use than Vim.

I'm not saying it's as powerful as Vim, but I am saying I use NPP whenever I can because I don't always want to run Eclipse or intellij.
>>
>>51772412
simplicity is not a downside, if you want an editor that you can just start using without reading docs and yet still has enough features and configurations that any editor would need(not stupid simple like gedit), then geany is perfect. I find even Notepad++ is overcomplicated for my purposes

Why would you use anything EXCEPT NP++? Its the best editor for Windows and possibly any OS. Its also the only Windows editor that uses native UI widgets meaning way less resource use than Atom/VS Code/Emacs/Geany

/pol/ crossies are butthurt the creator doesn't share their political views, so now they're intentionally crippling themselves looking for 'alternatives'. Don't worry though, they'll be back in a month max.
>>
>>51772815
In case you missed the threads yesterday, the author went on twitter and ordered everyone who voted for the French Nationalist party in the local elections last weekend to uninstall the program.

We hate when people try to cram politics into tech so when we see another program fall for this, specially when it's the usual SJW crap, we abandon shit. A lot of us stopped using Firefox when Brendan Eich was first rewarded for decades of service with the CEO position of the Mozilla foundation and then days later forced to resign by SJW's demanding his head on a platter after they found out that he had donated a bit of money to a political campaign they didn't like.
>>
>>51772815
pol shitters who claim to hate SJW-style mobbing/boycotting are now acting like SJWs because the authors of a piece of software disagrees with them politically, and that apparently means you have to stop using the program.
>>
>>51772602

I don't even disagree with the sentiment that NF are dangerous xenophobes, but I still think this "Stop using my software if you don't agree with my political views" stuff is bullshit. The same way as Brendan Eich being forced to resign after his political views, which he didn't practice as part of his job, came to light.

/pol/ and people with any amount of sense generally hate this kind of shit where politics is brought into everything.

That's not even what he said.
It was tongue in cheek playing on the NF xenophobia and calling them shitty, pointing out it's coded by an immigrant and shouldn't be used according to their own logic.
>>
>>51773974
To expound on that, I don't think Don cares whoever uses it, hell he moved the site to France because he refused to deny access to the software in embargoed countries like Cuba/Iran.

lol no, the NPP author has a long twitter history of whiny bitching about politics and there was nothing tongue-in-cheek about the post it was basically "Fuck you NF voters, stop using my program it was written by an immigrant I shit on you" etc.
Fag isn't even an immigrant, he's a 2nd generation chink who considers himself "not French".
