CMOS Battery. Never seen one before ? It usually is a round watch battery that says CR 2032 on it.
>>
>>51765830
Remove the motherboard battery and put it back in. I know you think the people on /b/ were fucking with you but you should actually do it.
>>
>>51765830
Enter the setup password, that should fix it
>>
>>51765830
Give it back Joaquim
How the fuck do you even steal a desktop
>>
>>51765830
Just remove the battery like /b/ and anons above said. Nobody is trying to trick you into breaking your computer if you're reasonably suspicious about that.
>>
>>51765963
>actually falling for the "remove CMOS battery" meme
it's Central Main Operating System battery, you take that you and your computer goes with it. I swear these kids get more gullible by the day
>>
>>51765977
Are you retarded, or just bait. I honestly can't tell.
>>
>>51766001
It's bait, it's so retarded it has to be bait.
>>
give it back jamal
>>
>>51765977

Kek'd hard, thank you!
>>
>>51765830
>its an LGA775
>op using /b/
>op using "lolz"

I think the computer is older than he is

Change the jumpers, update the password to something you can remember, change the jumpers back.
>>
>>51766001
It is bait. CMOS stands for Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. It just stores all your BIOS settings and your system time.
>>
>>51768230
Lol a battery can't store data you kek. That's what USBs are for. Don't listen to them OP.
>>
>>51768272
I almost bit this one, watch out guys.

the battery powers the chip that stores the data dip shit
>>

>>51765963
Ever heard of the delete system32 meme? This is just like that except you end up with a bricked motherboard.
>>
Find the reset jumper and use that or take out the cmos battery
>>
>>51768686
sureley you can replace the button cell battery.
Just consult the manual, there usually is another option where you reset CTLR or whatever it is called in your motherboard, by moving a jumper.

This Doesn't work
>thinkpad E530
>>
>>51769046
laptops have cmos batteries.
>>
>>51769095
ThinkPads don't.
>>
>>51769137
Yeah they do, probably has yellow rubber casing over it.
>>
>>51769209
It does but I took it off and still asks for the password
>>
There is a way to crack ThinkPad BIOS passwords but it's a pain in the ass and involves a lot of trial and error. Google it, I didn't save the link unfortunately.

But it is possible. Just don't bin it yet, is what I'm saying. Did you buy it like this?
>>
>>51769095
>>51769046
taking the CMOS battery out of a laptop doesn't work, unlike on most desktop motherboards

clearing the BIOS password on laptops often requires special expensive hardware
>>
>>51769250
then the person who had it before you put a password on it, it is on the nvram/rom chip.

TL;DR you're fucked it's a bitch to fix. >>51769292
Yeah I know, sometimes removing the battery works though.
>>
>>51768294
Bunch of non computers geeks around here /facepalm
>>
>>51768230
Are you kidding me ? CMOS battery just keeping the configuration of BIOS not saved it. ROFL
>>
>>51766001
M8 if you can't tell that this is bait you need to leave 4chan before you hurt yourself.
>>
1. remove power cable
2. remove kebab
3. remove CMOS battery
4. wait about a minute
5. put battery and power back in
6. boot
7. done
