Was this really fucking necessary?

Do they really think people care that much about reusing $1 cables vs having more available ports on the motherboard?
>>
nigga what u even talkin about

>>51762671
>4 sata
>>
>>51762671
>every motherboard needs to be exactly how I think it should be because everybody shares my opinion and I am great
Newsflash, that's not the only board on the market.
>>
>>51762671
I feel your pain. I love my Asus Z97-AR. Does everything I want it to do and more except for the lack of fucking ports. If I'm spending $150 on a motherboard, I should have at least 8 ports. Shouldn't have to buy an expansion card or x79/x99 workstation board to get 8-12 ports.
>>
>>51763206
Why do you need so many SATA ports in a desktop?
>>
>>51763232
I have a lot of drives. Single Blu ray burner, 3 ssds, 4x1TB HDDs in RAID 10, a 2 TB drive, and 4TB drive.

I have the 4x1TB in RAID using a dedicated RAID controller because If I didn't, I wouldn't have enough ports.
>>
>>51763279
Why dont you use the raid card for the 4,1tb drives instead?
>>
>>51763279
Yeah, I have a lot of drives too. My desktop only has one SSD though, everything else is in my server.
>>
>>51763279
so buy/build a SAN you stupid fuck, whats the point of having all that storage if it's only available from 5-9pm when you get back from working at taco bell?
>>
>>51763279
>using hdds
haha poorfag
>>
>>51763279
That's a retarded amount of drives to stuff in one computer that's not a server of some sort. What do you use that for?

Just get an RVE. 12 SATA ports + 1 M.2 is enough for any filthy human.

>>51763306
I am using the raid card for the 4 1TB drives. That's what I said.
>>51763310
I had a server. Was too much of a hassle honestly. I've really no need for a storage server as I could just as easily store everything in one machine. Storage, gaming, printing, etc. All on 1 PC.
>>51763319
Why the hostility? I had a server but what is the point of it if I use it 5% of the time? My server had like 3 months uptime and I barely used it. Only when I was streaming a movie over the network. Something that just as easily be done by watching the movie from the local machine. And projecting much? I don't make a shit ton of money but I make much more and work a much better job than working a fast food joint. No idea what I do for a living has to do with the way I store my data.
>>51763329
>implying
Even if you're rich as fuck, why would you buy 1-2TB ssds for storage unless you're a datacenter that can't have a 4 second delay while the disk spins up?
>>51763383
Jesus what is with /g/? How is it retarded? I have the 4x1TB drives in RAID 10 for 2TB worth of workspace as well as general storage. The 2TB is for secondary storage. 4TB is for the 2TB array and 2TB drive to backup to.

I mostly a lot of bluray movies I ripped/encoded. Music, pictures, financial records, shit loads of school files.

Believe it or not there are some on /g/ who have more storage needs than just anime and video games.

Why the fuck would he waste a ton of money doing that when he only plans on accessing the files from one system you fucking retards? You don't use a server because it makes you look cool on /g/, you use a server because you actually have a reason to use one.
>>
>>51766839
But it is a valid reason to use one. The other valid thing to do would be to replace all the small drives with big ones.

I'm behind the times apparently, what the fuck are these mini ports you guys are bitching about?

The new connector should be half the size it is now without all that fucking wasted space in the name of "you can reuse those free throwaway cables you got with your mobo!"

And then they made a new fucking connector for it either way. Fuck these retards.

6 ports is a limitation of the chipset, if you want more buy a board with a Chinese sata controller that uses PCI lanes

literally what uses SATA Express?
nothing
