I should preface this with the fact that I know nothing about building PCs. That being said, I'm using logicalincrements as a guide.
Graphics: GTX 980
CPU: i7 4790k
HSF: NH-U12S
Motherboard: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
RAM: Crucial 8GB
HDD: Seagate 1 TB
PSU: CORSAIR HX750i
Case: Silverstone RV03
If there's any feedback you can provide, I'd appreciate it.

Whats your budget? Do you need to do anything else than gaming?
>>51746871
Are you planning on overclocking your CPU?
>>51746871
>30lbs curl
DYEL fuccboi??
>>51746922
30lbs is over three times its body weight. I am actually impressed.
>>51746900
~$1400 is what I would like to spend.
>>51746910
Yes.
>>51746900
Also, beyond browsing the internet, video games is really all I'd use it for.
>>51746952
Can I ask why you dipped into the ``exceptional'' tier for your PSU?
>>51747327
It was recommended to me that I get a power supply a tier higher in case I need to exchange parts of the PC in the future.
Bad advice?
That board wont work with that cpu. 980 was obseleted by the r9 fury.
I seriously recommend a PCIe SSD.
The new Samsung 950 PRO series is pretty good. How much drive space do you usually use? Will 512GB be enough? Movies and backups should be on your NAS, you know ...
>>51747411
Huh. Do you have any suggestions for a board that would work?
>>51747472
any z97
>>51747472
>>51746871
Additionally:
Noctua is overpriced, get Scythe or cheaper Thermalright models
I had a lot of problems with asus mobos, they don't like power spikes at all, gigabyte and msi were usually more durable.
With this cpu you gonna need a ddr3 , get 2133 with lowest cl, but don't spend too much on memory its almost never a bottleneck.
GET SSD as well, Cruial\Intel\Sandisk\Samsung
This is a nice psu but overpriced imo, seasonic, fsp , lower evga models(may be noisy) will do the job
Case is ugly as sin, look at Nzxt ,Fractal design, Corsair for something less 90s
>>51746871
Get 980ti, ssd and a better case.
>>51748012
>>51748364
>>51748430
Awesome. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
>>51747383
It's not particularly bad, it's just stupid. If you haven't noticed, power consumption has gone down while performance goes up.
>>51746871
Just my $ .02 but I'd go with 16 GB of DDR4 Ram.
Not superclocked, but as other said - go for the lowest CLs
Also, I think that the Z170 is the chipset for the Skylake CPUs and yours is not a Skylake. Check this issue.
>>51747470
This anon here, has it right. Since you're going for speed, you should seriously look at the M.2 version of Samsung 950, if your MoBo has the slot. Using PCIe instead of SATA, it's much faster even compared to SSDs.
>>51748430
This also, very good advice. For gaming you should really step up the GPU
This is my new setup, will install a 6700K shortly:
6700K - Z170 - 32GB DDR4 - CS650M - 980 G1 Gaming - 1TB WD Black, later on: add 950 M.2 512GB - CM N400
And even if I fell for the CPU and RAM memes, still around 1.400 €
>>51750357
dude knows nothing about pcs and you're seriously recommending an overpriced placebo 950, come on.
>>51746871
Here's a good build just use this.
