wifi here is much worse, it takes a while to connect and is fairly slow, like 10 mbps up/down

Not a super fast speed but also not terrible. Works for what I do. I have 150gb on my broadband and uploads are unlimited.

I get roughly the same result from the flash-based site and the html5 beta site.

how far off from "ground truth" do you think speedtest_cli is?

Question: If I were to buy a second router/wifi router and set it up in my bedroom on the other side of the house from my current one, would I be able to get a more stable wifi/eathernet connection or should I just get a looper/extender?
>>
>>51755431
an extender is generally just a normal wifi router but without as many ethernet ports.

Pretty much all wireless routers can be configured as a range extender.
>>
>>51755507
Alright. The reason why i'm asking is because as I said my wifi router is on the other side of the house, one floor bellow me and the wired connection to my room never gets over 500kb (never figured out why, even after re-running cat-6)
>>
>>51755539
>the wired connection to my room never gets over 500kb
that sounds like a problem with your NIC, especially if CAT-6 doesn't change anything.

There should be zero speed dropped in CAT-6 unless you are going over 1000m or something stupidly long like that.

If your house electrical wiring is somewhat modern (built after 1970 or so). Then you could look into getting a powerline adapter.

wireless bruh
>>
>>51755569
The connection I think is only 20m at longest (60ish ft?). It may have something to do with belkin switch the landlord is using I think. As for the house I think its a bit older but the land lord just upgraded to AT&T U-Verse so we have fresh wiring that should be much faster than we had previously (trust me you don't want to know how bad it was before)
>>
>>51744308
Bruh, I get 40Mb/s on SBB

>>51755625
Well replacing a switch with a gigabit switch would cost ~$20. Far cheaper than getting a wifi extender or powerline adapters. I'd recommend seeing if the switch is the issue.

Just get something cheap, you wont be doing anything fancy with it, at least from what you've described so far.
