I used the modern ogl API on linux once and the driver support was pretty bad for my graphics card(ati hd 5850). Certain functions just didn't work and nobody really cares to fix them. Hopefully vulkan will put a stop to all of that nonsense.

OpenGL already does everything that DirectX does, and can easily be used cross platform. why would we use anything other than OpenGL
