7800gtx for 5~ years. still works today, but i needed something faster for the gaymen meme.

The only piece of hardware I've needed to replace due to it breaking by itself is a white PSU I got with a cheap as shit computer (with a sempron 2800). After that, later on, my HD6970 gave up the ghost just before its warranty expired.
The oldest part I still use is a 320gb maxtor hd from 2006.
Dell x486 8MB RAM from 1994(i got it that year, no idea how actually old it was), sold it still working in 2007.

I am currently using a Eizo L685 monitor which was built in 2002 or 2001. I'm also currently using a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, which is also pretty old.
My current processor is an i5 750 and that alon with my current hard drives were bought in 2009.

if you plan your sales correctly you can sell them at the right time and get new stuff a month or two later and cover 70 - 90% of the cost.
been doing it for the last six years. recently did it with my 4790k. sold it two weeks before skylake hit and made $300 off of it. So only $60 out of my pocket for my 6700K.

Phenom II X3 720, plus the Gigabyte motherboard and Corsair RAM that I bought with it. Not that they've been in every day use for about 18 months now, but they still work fine and are there as a backup option. Had the fourth core unlocked and overclocked to 3.4GHz for most of its life.
The 4870 I bought with them died in 2013 and the fan in the PSU went a year later, which prompted a new build.

My entire x61 still works to this day, I believe it's 9 years old? Haven't had to replace a single part in it, but it's slowing to a halt.
I also have a collection of novelty tech items that may still work but have no means of testing, including Macintosh II parts, those cassette drives (passed down by my dad) and a Commodore Tape Reader. Floppy drives and readers still work though.

Well, seeing as the pc is actually pretty decent. After putting os x on it, you could sell it very close to it's new-value (if someone was to build it new). $700 might've been an exaggeration, but you could get back what you paid for it.
This POS with a Prescott that constantly idle at 60C and a shitty PC Chips motherboard. The thing refused to die despite being about 10 years old.
I should give it an SSD and a housefire Pentium D but it's probably not worth it.
