>tfw you fell for the 1440p meme
I legitamtely feel bad for anyone who fell for the 4k or curved screen memes now.
>>
>>51712103
What's wrong with 1440p? Seems useful at 27".
>>
>>51712103
I got the dell ultra wide and curved 1440p. Where's your fedora now faggot?
>>
>>51712103
Here's your reply.

A screen resolution higher than 1080p is usually preferred if you're working on video editing, since most of editors in the profession are going to be making videos in 1080p. This gives them not only a full-resolution preview screen of what their product is going to look like while editing, but also some extra space for using their preferred software's tools.
>>
>>51712103
>hurr resolution is a meme
Fuck off retard
>>
>>51712103
>A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture".

None of this implies 1440p is bad, just popular.
>>
>>51712103
Can't afford it.

Must be a meme.

I'm using a 27" 1440p monitor. It is most definately a meme.

>>51712299
You sound like you copied that straight from samsung's website.

What?

>I'm using a 27" 1440p monitor. It is most definately a meme.

How so? Text is too small? (Windows sucks at scaling). Games must look nice when rendered at higher res. You probably don't even need AA

So far I've only played FO4 on it, but it is vastly worse than my TN meme panel 144hz monitor. And not because of refresh rate. Just because the resolution and size make it shit. I guess it would be ok if you only use a single monitor and never game.

>inb4 >>>/v/
>inb4 get a job.
I have 2 jobs, including one full time /g/ related job thanks.
>>
>>51712439
Don't listen to that spastic, I went from a standard LG 27" 1080p 60Hz TN to a MG249Q 27" 1440p 144Hz IPS and I love it.
>>
>>51712546
That's because you are retarded. You bought a 27" 1080p TN panel monitor. You should have killed yourself for even doing that.
Of course that upgrade makes it seem a lot better. But if you are coming from like a 24" 1080p IPS then it is literally just a meme.
>>
>>51712423
>51712423
I'm also using a 1440p 27" monitor. Coming from a 1080p monitor of similar size, you're an idiot.
>>
>>51712627
That was the entire point you stupid fuck. You are comparing a literal piece of shit to an almost piece of shit. Of course the literal piece of shit is going to be worse. Next time try to broaden your comparison pool.
>>

> Upscale everything you watch

That's shopped right?
>>

I doubt it. It sounds good to people who have no idea what that actually means. Surprised it isn't trademarked.
>>

The upscaling on that tv is actually good.

A resolution isn't a meme. Its a factual measurement for the amount of pixels on a screen.
>>
>>51713175
a factual meme* measurement
>>
>>51712614
Because I have a job in which I can afford it, utilise the 144hz frequency and enjoy the 1440p clarity & colors in RPG's? And I'm retarded because of that?

Your logic baffles me. Eat a dick.
>>
>>51713244
No, you are retarded *obviously* for your lack of reading comprehension.
>>

this is literally the argument against SSDs here

It's less evident, some games like ACS need AA Fo4 doesn't need it no idea why it's visible in one game and not in the other..
>>
>>51712756
How do they do it? Hardware acceleration proprietary software?
>>
>>51712502
Oh I see. You cheaped out and didn't get the Gsync/Freesync 144hz 27" 1440p monitors. It is okay, we get it. You are poor. But let me guess freesync and gsync is just a meme too.
>>
Not a meme. My parents have a huge curved Samsung and it's amazing.
>>
>>51712818
I have it, do you have IPS panel now? It has a bit of glow if you didn't have IPS panel before might be the worst first two weeks with a monitor.

Everything else, specially contrast is amazing.

Can confirm this is real, work at Best Buy.
>>
Why would you get 1440p? It is to 2160p what 'HD ready' was to full HD a few years ago. I just moved from a 24" 1080p to a 27" 2160p monitor and it's mostly excellent, the only issue is with applications reporting that they're HiDPI compatible when they're not so the interface is ant scale. This is easily solved: knock the resolution down to 1080p so each rendered pixel neatly maps to 4 then switch back when you're done.
>>
It's ok if you don't like high dpi displays, but I do.
>>
If you got the money, go for 1440p and beyond. Unless you're really into old games, you absolutely need a 980 ti to play newer games on max settings at 60fps at that resolution.

I bought a Dell U3011.

It was expensive but I can't say I regret it. Glorious 16:10.
>>
What do I get?
1080p or 1440p?

I don't really have the budget for freesync or any of the top monitor models.

>i5 6600k
>Asus Z170A
>R9 390
>>
>>51715112
>16:10

Protip: if the manufacturer of your monitor makes a 16:10 monitor in the same size then you probably already have a 16:10 panel in your 16:9, just carefully peel away the bezel (I used a can opener) and force the appropriate resolution.
>>
>>51715126
If I were in your position, I'd go for 1080p with a better panel.
>>
Somebody please explain why 4K makes all the actors look like they're in rehearsal.
>>
>>51712422

>>

>>

>>
>>51715134

>>
>>51715339
Depends how close you're going to sit to it, for a normal desk, I think 22-24" is ideal.
>>
I don't know.

I still want a Dell U2515H.
But it'll require a new graphics card, at least.

My 9600GT 512MB doesn't really do all that well in modern games at 1920x1080 in the first place.
It's almost 8 years old, so no wonder.
>>
I didn't fall for it OP, I went from a Planar 27" 1080p TN panel to a Dell Ultrasharp 3007wfp 30" 1600p panel. I got it for $100 on Craigslist from a digital graphics office that was upgrading. I love it, FO4 and Witcher 3 look fantastic

Sometimes it pays to be a cheap jew with my hardware upgrades :^)
>>
>>51713151
Don't talk shit about fw900 nigger.
I dreamt of owning that shit way back.
>>
>>51715430

Damn dude, you can find used Gtx 580s for like $50, time to upgrade. I had SLI 9600GT's back on my rig 6 years ago... an original phenom.
>>
>>51712502
But anon, you really should go back to /v/. It's not about playing games - it's okay, i bet majority of /g/ plays games. It's about you seeing everything from 'gamer' perspective.

>hurrr higher resolution is a meme
>why? it's great when you have >24' monitor
>hurr games look bad
If you think something is shit only because it's not suitable for games, you really should consider >>>/v/
>>
>>51715362

I actually considered it for half a second, till I realized it'd be obvious if this were the case by overscanning it
>>
>>51715430
>I still want a Dell U2515H.
It's a pretty great monitor, but I upgraded to 4k after a while anyways.
>>
>>51712103
>tfw fell for the 144hz 1440p monitor meme

I'm blind so I actually increase the size of my text, which makes everything look psuedo-1080p.
>>
so why the fuck is 1440 a bad thing
why the fuck do you little kids use meme as a derogatory term do you even know what meme means you fucking cunt wipers
>>
>>51715615

At this point I'm pretty sure using meme to refer to things is itself a meme. That and it makes the poster look like an insufferable douchebag, thus adding troll points
>>
>>51715126

Nice 1080, vibrant colors and shit > budget 1440

Skip 1440 and buy into 4k in like 5-6 years once content/graphix have caught up
>>
>>51715519
im about to get a gtx750ti for $50 to replace my gts450.
good?
>>
>>51715660

Yeah that's half the price of retail. That's a massive upgrade.
>>
>>51715519
I'm currently looking at the GTX 960, specifically the "Gigabyte GV-N960G1 GAMING-4GD".
It seems pretty decent in all aspects, and it should be enough for my needs.
But from the looks of it, I can probably hold off for another generation (which is what I've been doing since the cards were called 4** GTX, the original FERMI housefire).

>>51715569
I see the point in 4K, but then again, there's pretty much no content for it.
If I were to get a TV, maybe I'd go for 4K and upscale everything.

I think games look fine in 1080p, and my Malaysian claymation for young teenagers don't exceed 1080p anyway.

>>

Any recommendations for under £300?

Good idea I'd upgrade my gpu with 4k in the future.

>>51715696
I've heard about them but I don't know if it's worth it since I'm on a budget, also I hear some things about some being bad etc. And no assurance from a well known company.
>>
>>51715720
It's all made by Vietcong's children these days anyway.

I just like the sound of "Malaysian claymation".
>>
>>51712103
>tfw you fell for the 21:9 meme

Some games look fucking fantastic, some games turn to liquid shit because the UI elements don't scale, get fucked up, models clip through your FOV, etc, etc, etc.
>>
>>51715645

We're at least two levels deep at this point

>meme

>"meme" meme

I predict by the end of 2016 we'll be at least four layers deep
>>
>>51715749

As long as you pay a little extra for pixel perfect they're apparently extremely good. The stands are flimsy and they usually only have dual link DVI inputs but the panel itself is great. See if you can get a used ones, I've seen used catleaps go for like $150
