Yes, use a web browser compatible with ad blockers. Or root it and install adaway.

Use that to opt out of interest based advertising. It's not a full solution but it's one step on the way.

It's not actually a botnet, that's just /g/'s meme term for it. But yes, those purchases got reported, along with your identity, to a dozen ad companies. They have an entry in their databases - who you are, and what you bought. They'll never, ever forget. They put cookies, flash LSOs, and use all sorts of other tricks to identify you at every site you visit, so that they can show you ads based on the information they have on you. They'll gladly cough up all this data if someone from the government asks them for it.

If it sounds a bit Orwellian, thats because it is.

Anon from Fiiji here. It's quite bitter and an acquired taste.
The effects would take around 20mins but make sure you drink a lot of it. It's like alcohol, pretty sedative and without the "mental fog".

I agree with his logic, but the only problem with it is that he doesn't mention who exactly is affected by this morality shift.

People are having moral qualms over content creators, they are not having qualms about advertisers or their ads.

If content creators could support themselves without ads, then no one would be having this argument. Yes, advertisers love to spin it around to keep themselves looking like the victim, but no one seriously gives a shit whether they make money or not, do they?

First of all
>She doesn't block ads
This is your karma - your own doing.

Secondly, Yes, you are being spied on and the information that is gained is being used to manipulate you.
Again, your karma - you decided to use THEIR services and didn't protect yourself.

Ads are internet AIDS. Wear a condom during sex to not get AIDS, use ad-blockers and privacy protectors to not be spied on and advertised to. Internet 101 anon-friend.

This. I use a RaspberryPi as default DNS server, with an adblock hosts file.
>>
>>51711844
Whoah, that's ingenious. Why didn't I think of that?
>>
>>51710608
Content creators don't have the balls to stick it to advertisers and enforce fair policies on what ads are shown with their content, so they're guilty as well.

If every site suddenly started saying:

>Your ads will abide by the following terms:
-They will be unscripted, static images hosted on our local servers, shown by a simple <a href> tag
-They will not in any way attempt to mislead the viewer (e.g. fake download buttons on download sites)
-They will not track the users' internet habits in any way, and in those cases where other information is collected, will make it clear and obvious that said information is being collected
-Will not be intrusive in a way that is detrimental to the viewing of the hosts' content

I would start white-listing said sites today.
>>
>>51711969
Agreed. That is how advertising should be.
>>
>>51711022
Holy shit, this so much. I can watch the genre of music I want for two hours and it still gets only equal space in rec'd list with random ass remixes and YTP from watching just three of them in a month.
>>
>>51711969
Agreed.

I like to think that if we live in an age where people like Tom Cassell and PewDiePie can buy multimillion dollar houses from playing videogames, then we ought to live in an age of blocking unnecessary bullshit clickbait that we never wanted in the first place to be the norm.

The botnet is very real, guys..

I browse both in incognito and in non-incognito.

I often receive images and google searches from my incognito browsing in my non-incognito browsing.

I've gotten images from the /g/entoo wiki!

They've begun tracking your IP, as well.

The botnet is very, very real. They serve you content which you would like, and opposing opinions are hidden from you.

That's how google is manipulating everything.
>>
>>51710608
You don't sit through all the ads on TV do you? I could very well claim it "stealing money from content creators" by the same logic
Plus ads are client sided, why do they care what I run on MY computer and block their ads that I never asked for in the first place?
>>
>>51713717
>using google search

it`s useless to me now that they`ve started censoring a lot of copyright material and personal info. Not to mention a huge number of search results are clickbait articles that use adsense and therefore generate revenue for google, so they don`t do shit about it.

I use dedicated search engines because the era of centralized search engines is over for everything that isn`t general information.
