Any Google Cardboard users here?
I got one of the kits Verizon was handing out to try it out, but it was pretty disappointing because of how pixelated it looks. I am using an LG G4 with a 2560x1440 screen. Would it be any better with the Sony Z5 Premium?

Its going to look pixelated up until you get to 8k resolution, the technology isnt mature yet
I use plastic molded cardboards just for comfyness, if your concern is pixels then I'm half surprised you can see them too badly at 2560x1440, but then again I've seen them at 1024x800, so I might ignore the blockyness because of how much better it is than before.
You could wait for VR headsets, 2nd gen would surely be 4k, but if you want something now than the 4k sony is your best choice, but it probably won't be perfect.
Try one in a shop first if you can find one.

it would be worse because the Z5P is 1080p except on static images in certain situations, then it has a short delay where it switches to 4k mode for JUST that static image. The moment you go back out it is 1080p again.
So if you want a 4K photoviewer with VR lenses, you could do that. But that'd be about all it would do.
The G4 with 1440p will be higher res than the Z5p for MOST things.

He talked about all the latency and fuckery built into android, I'd wonder if the changed he made to android would address the sony issue, but probably not.
The z5 has an unlocked bootload and public drivers, wonder if anyone could build a rom that was 4k all the time.
Or if sony could put in a toggle.

It won't get any better if you change your phone. G Cardboard is shit tier VR when it comes to resolution, but there's no real superior alternative yet. Enjoy as much as you can with Cardboard and wait for the Oculus Rift if you're serious about it. All other alternatives right now are overpriced shit.

Unfortunately we won't be getting real 4k on phones till the processing and heat are there.
You'd have to get a phone with the highest DPI you can get for the best experience.

I think you're looking at this wrong though, what's distracting about the low resolution is the visible sub-pixels. A 4k screen running at 1080p will have less detail but you will see less distracting sub-pixels. So it's a trade off of a slightly blurrier image with less pixel pattern or more pixel pattern with a sharper image.
