My Gentoo install isn't clean either fuckwit. It doesn't bloat the fuck up like Windows does.

We don't need to defend anything. You fucking faggot we don't care about trivial issues like these when hardware and storage are dirt cheap today. We only give a shit about convenience and ability to do whatever the fuck we want, whenever we want.

Take your Gentoo install and shove it up your ass.

Now I don't NEED a 3.2GB hibernation file or a 6.1GB system restore file (and a 16GB system restore partition), but I don't have any issues with free space so I keep 'em.

But maybe OP's point is that Windows 10 isn't an embedded operating system.

Well duh.

Does Linux have any filesystems that support compression?
>>
Because ram is so expensive
>>
>>51685151
None even uses NTFS compression on Windows?
>>
>>51685095
No, because I wouldn't criticise ATM vendors for using Windows Embedded.

We're talking about PCs aren't we? Also, it's not just gaymes, there is lots of software that requires a lot of power on Windows but next to none on Linux. Not because the Linux versions are more efficient but because they are almost always half finished "projects" to emulate the more powerful Windows software.

IDEs for example, Visual Studio is quite power hungry and is also the best IDE you can find. Linux has IDEs but no one takes them seriously because they usually have half the features while still being too power hungry for many people's Linux computers.

In the end the IDE is discarded for Vim or emacs because a lack of features == "muh efficiency and no bloat" for Linux users.

Uh wat? NTFS compression is extremely helpful, depending on the usage scenarios (like with file servers dealing with millions of small files) you can save one or two hundred GBs
>>
>>51685151
Does Windows have any file system that's immutable to fragmentation?
>>
>>51685151
Yes, Btrfs supports transparent compression. I think ZFS does too.
>>
>>51685337
Quite nice memes you got there, See how much people run Matlab and a lot of data analisys software on Linux becasue of the performance gain.
As for IDE's CLion and IDEA seems a lot better than VS and for compilers MSVC/C++ are subpar compared to Clang and GCC. and VS is still not C++11/14 compilant.

Well if you wanted an answer, Windows can support ext2 based filesystems with a simple, open source driver. Additionally:

>NTFS fragmentation hasn't been a problem since NT 6.0 released almost 10 years ago with smarter disk writing mechanisms
>Linux filesystems can fragment (abeit rarely), and since nobody's made any tools to correct this the only solution is often to backup, reformat and restore
>Not using an SSD in the year of our lord 2015
>>
>>51685359
Saving only a couple of hundred GBs would still not be worth it, but the file server would have to be a) under virtually no load and store b) uncompressed c) static data in d) files larger than the cluster size to even theoretically benefit.
>>
>>51685799
I agree it's not commonly useful (The mechanism was added with NT 4.0 so it's also pretty old), but it's still better to just have the option than nothing at all especially if you want to squeeze as much space as you can.

>Well if you wanted an answer, Windows can support ext2 based filesystems with a simple, open source driver.
Buggy hacks that aren't native to the OS which M$ refuses to incorporate into Windows in the first place.
>>NTFS fragmentation hasn't been a problem since NT 6.0 released almost 10 years ago with smarter disk writing mechanisms
That's Windows Vista and NTFS still fragments NTFS till this day.
>>Linux filesystems can fragment (abeit rarely), and since nobody's made any tools to correct this the only solution is often to backup, reformat and restore
That only happens when your file system reaches its maximum capacity. Typically around the 85% mark (rough estimation as this depends on your file sizes)
>>Not using an SSD in the year of our lord 2015
Not my lord, you're referring to a murderous cult whose followers even stole Saturnalia. :( I am using an SSD. I'm also aware fragmentation doesn't concern SSDs.
>>
>>51684162
why are you hiding your weeaboo porn inside the windows folder?
>>
Meanwhile TinyXP can be ~200MiB...

Dear MS, I don't care _that_ much about backwards compatibility. Please fix the size of Windows even more. 11 GiB is ridiculous...
>>
>>51686210
Would be nice if there were 2 versions of windows and separate teams working on each one: first with all that bloat of 20 years compatibility. and second one with no support for legacy code at all or 1 generation maximum.
>>
>>51686514
Aww yiss, this would be _so_ gooooood!
