It does, surprisingly well. I dropped it like 10x and no damage the phone, they have this gooey tape on the inside that helps. I'm enjoying the shit of of my phone more than with an overall case.

Let me just share a little story. So me and my brother went for on trip and we got caught by a nasty rain. I had and iphone 4 which died beacuse it got water inside. nvm got it replaced by the insurance company. the same with even a bigger rain happened to my htc. nothing happened.

Because I don't think it is.
The way they have so many cables and wires run in the phone instead of just putting everything on one tiny board is also very dumb, every wire and cable run is another point for a loose contact or faulty cable/connector.
The design is very lazy too, instead taking time to make a single clean board or two, they just threw everything in there with wires running all over.
Very poor design.
And your single case means nothing really, too many uncontrolled factors, not to mention neither phone is designed to be waterproof.
M8 also had a massive influx of problems being reported, a major one being the blue camera.
Lol I love getting snaps from people with M8s, you can always tell because the snaps look like they are taken inside a sauna with a blue light turned on.
By the way, your battery wont last 3 years, lithium chemistry loses about 30-50% of its design capacity per year depending on condition and number of cycles.
