Save in your home folder.

$ tmux
^       is control
^j      is the prefix for a tmux command
^j-c   make a new window
^j n   switch between windows
^j |    split a window into panes
^j j    jump between panes
^j ^j  also jump between panes
^j x   close shit
^j ,    rename a window
^j d   detach from tmux session
$ tmux attach # reconnect to detached tmux session

You can close a terminal without detaching and tmux won't die. It lives in the background waiting to be attached to.
