I mean. I understand the Arch fanbase on here are disgusting. But as a noob it feels like a pretty nice system and I don't see the hate.

Past the installation I haven't really had any major issues with it.

Nope. I did use Antergos for a while though.

Pretty nice distro(shitty installer aside) and it helped me learn a lot.

Why Arch elitist feels the need to hate on it is beyond me since if anything it's a great gateway into proper Arch. I mean, it was for me.

>>51654746
It was surprisingly easy. I thought I was in for a huge headache but the only thing I had problems with was the locale and language stuff, but that has been an issue with a lot of distros for me, Arch or not.
>>
>>51654692
I never even used linux before trying arch. I used the evo/lution installer with an old laptop, got used to arch/linux in general and liked it so much that I use arch on my desktop and new laptop.

I installed it the real way on my desktop and I had no idea how easy it was. Pretty daunting the first time you see the instructions, but it's really simple.

I use arch and basically have none of these issues. I will admit I did have to write a lot of scripts getting started to do things that would normally be handled on a different distro. But I learnt a lot in the process.

If you're going to use something like that Antergos is a better choice by all means since it actually uses the Arch repos.
Manjaro might have access to the aur, but the rest of the repos are not the Arch ones but the dev teams own which tend to be much slower.
Of course you could also just realize that installing arch is literally a 45 minute process with detailed instructions that you would have to be an idiot not to screw up.

this, running and using arch isn't hard to use and maintain
if you have troubles using it might as well just be using ubuntu or even fucking windows.

The only thing I don't get about this is that Arch doesn't really compile stuff. I guess you can do it with archbuild or whatsitcalled, but usually you just get binaries.
>>
>>51656560
Maybe Arch was source based back in the day? Or the author has mixed up Arch and Gentoo...
>>
>>51654692
It's just typical "muh distro > ur distro"

I've used arch for 5 months or so, can't stand any debian based distro due to APT and debians horrible repos/releases. Gave up trying to pull deps for ncmpcpp visualizers and went back to arch. Obviously others don't have that problem and instead run into some weird problem with xorg conf files and complain that arch is shitty, so you get these kinds of pointless threads.

Well, I've been using Arch for about 5 years now and I'll be the first to admit that Xorg broke constantly when I used the proprietary ATI Catalyst drivers from late 2010-2012. It was also a HUGE pain in the ass to update Catalyst drivers since it's not in the official repos and I'd have to get it from the AUR... the whole process was just convoluted and messy and updating the drivers often caused settings to revert or fixed some bugs at the cost of introducing new bugs..... MOST of the issue stemmed from the fact that ATI's proprietary GPU drivers for Linux in that time period were GOD AWFUL but it really degraded the overall user-experience of using Arch for me.

I've NEVER had an issue with X breaking when running Arch on laptops using Intel graphics though.
>>
>>51657134
>Well, I've been using Arch for about 5 years now and I'll be the first to admit that Xorg broke constantly when I used the proprietary ATI Catalyst drivers from late 2010-2012.

Yeah and that was 2010-2012, and you were not the only one. Isn't that why, like you said, they're not in the official repos? They encourage you not to use them because Arch devs are fed up with AMD's bullshit.
>>
>>51657156
I was just pointing out where the whole "Arch breaks Xorg constantly" meme came from. Most of those cartoons making fun of Arch came from that time period.

I run Arch exclusively on both of my laptops (which have intel graphics) nowadays and don't really have much to complain about anymore. "It just werks."

ls -a because they are 1337 because they don't use a graphical file manager

it's a command that lists all of the files in a directory. It's a meme because winbabbies and DE babbies think it's archaic to a) use the command line at all and b) to use it to navigate through your filesystem.

>>51657223
I use arch too but no one is going to care. Just look at all the newfags who think the housefire meme originated with AMD. They just regurgitate bullshit to fit in. Personally x has only broken once, and again due to drivers, not arch itself. But anyone who updates their drivers on linux, bleeding edge or not, has to deal with drivers fucking up x. Again, not like memesters even care.

I've had Manjaro on my x61 for years now, it never broke once. But archfags wouldn't understand that someone needs a reliable system for Uni etc.

>>51662957
How is Manjaro more stable than Arch ?
Or how is Arch not stable when you can just not update it ?
You can't act all superior when you're a retard yourself.
>>
>>51662928

No, it's just bleeding edge, just two weeks after everyone else which makes it pointless.

Speaking of xorg, the latest update of Arch is upgrading to xorg 1.18. Manjaro team temporarily decided to still ship 1.17 until catalyst releases support for 1.18.
