I've always seen these in review videos but I'm not sure what other options there are.
I really don't care for using a case for my next build.
Should i just ghetto rig it with milk crates and corrugated plastic? Or buy something like pic related?

unless your case is specifically a sound dampening one, an open air setup is going to be quieter than a cased one

that's T-extruded aluminum plus some aluminum rods cut to length.
Then you've got yourself some laser cut something-or-other. Hard to say what that material is, not that it matters because you can laser cut scads of different synthetic materials.
How about the HAF XB EVO? The case I have. Part lan box style case...
