Thanks /g/.

So what?

Did you think there wasn't going to be a performance impact from using full disk encryption?

What a fag

at least your chinese cartoons are safe anon

Use AES-256 by itself, idiot.

A little slow down is a small price to pay to satisfy one's autism, and really, isn't that what encryption is all about?

What do you mean by this?

It might be a problem in a few years.

Top pleb. Even using the encrypted drive requires encrypting the temporary files involved, how on earth could there not be slowdown?
>>
If data was already on the ssd/flash medium, congrats you just moved it around you didn't encrypt anything due to wear-leveling system on chip.

Is there any point in fulldisk encryption for a laptop with an SSD besides security for my media.

no one gives a fuck about your horse cock porn you waste of oxygen.

You should take an unnoticeable 2-3% decrease in performance.

How did you encrypt your hard drive?
>>
>>51633569
There isn't a point in using fulldisk encryption if you don't have sensitive data (where sensitive data -> private life and administrative things). In most case it's useful when your laptop is stolen or someone powered him On. If it's someone who truly want your data, a fulldisk encryption with two factor authentication and a signed bootloader is the only option. Oh, and in this case pray for your life.

I'm curious, say I AES my entire disk with a secure password and I use something like Arch and I always turn off my computer (as oppose to sleeping it) to protect from cold boot attacks. How else can I get fucked?

The main thing I can spot is I've not protected my internet in that scenario. What else is there to do?

Your mum will definitely not be able to break AES-128

10 years from now I bet the computer power and software required to do so will be readily available leaving dated encryption trivial to crack.

If you ever get fucko'd you wont have enough time to press Alt+PrtSc+O.

Just stack your encryption:
>luks+dm-cript for the entire drives
>ecryptfs for individual directories
>gpg for individual files
unless you decrypted the files for their use, there's no point in time where your files are ever vulnerable.

>hurr durr too slow
if you actually care about protecting your data it's never too slow.

I've often worried about what happens when I decrypt a file.

Like say I go be a pleb and use something like 7-Zip to stick AES on a file. Later on I then decrypt the file and extract it from the 7-Zip archive, I then use the file and delete it when I'm done , keeping the encrypted archive. I then turn off my computer.

Are there any traces of the unencrypted file left?

TUrn off Swap, nothing should persist after a reboot in your /tmp

Why the fuck would you take /g/'s advice in the first place? That's your fault for having downs.
