Anyone else disappointed that these things are sold out until next year?
>>
>>51630907
What do you need it for
>>
>>51630913
Nerdgasms.
>>
>>51630917
Just get an Arduino
>>
>>51630917
are you buying it just to tell people you have it cause LOL IM SUCH A NERD XDDD or do you have an actual reason for wanting one?
>>
>>51630907
You say next year as if it's not December right now...

>>51630926
But it's not the same, man.
>>
>>51631055
I am interested in the technology.
>>
>BOO HOO I HAVE TO WAIT 30 days
>>
>>51631130
if you're so interested why can't you think of what you will use it for?
>>
>>51631252
It'll be my linux PC.

And I'll be doing some coding in python.

I don't need a reason to own something cool though anyway faggot.
>>
>>51631316
It's not powerful enough to do the unless you want a text only system
>>
You can get a used 1st gen pi for like $10 anyway. It's the exact same shit and you don't even need to buy adapters to use the ports.
>>
>>51631316
First, it doesn't have a network stack. Second, it's not very powerful. I would recommend getting at least the latest model B.
>>
>>51631316
>Interested in technology
>thinks using a pi zero as linux pc is good idea
how can you be interested in technology but be this bad at it
>>
>>51631316
Just dualboot if you want to linux and get a cheap arduino somewhere from china.
>>
>>51631401
>it doesn't have a network stack

...of course it does. Run Linux. Linux has a fully functional network stack.

It doesn't have Ethernet on the board, but just plug in a USB->Ethernet adaptor.
>>
>>51630913

Because I am a "Maker".
>>
>>51631351

>getting a used Pi

That's like buying used underwear.
>>
>>51630907
anyone else disappointed that they could've just had a chink factory do this shit so it doesn't run out and can be cheaper?

man, how can anyone stand to wait this long?
>>
I was excited when I saw this appear and wanted to buy one, then I realised that I already have a rpi gen 1 which is currently gathering dust since there's like nothing practical to do with it except for Kodi. and my tv does that shit on its own already so...
>>
>>51630926
I have 5 AVRs they don't exactly serve same purpose.
>>
>>51631490

No.

China needs to go bankrupt.

I have a couple of AVRs to and a few 8052 based microcontrollers. I'm trying to get into the whole microcontroller scene but can't decide if I want to learn and use assembly like the cool boys or be a high level monkey that I have been all my life and use C. I can't also device if I should use AVRs or 8052 based one....
Pls help

It's a 5$ single board computer that supports 1080p GUI through HDMI
That enough is a reason to buy it
>>
OP is a fag.

Okay, everyone post projects they would actually do using the Pi Zero.
>>
>>51631778
I bet more than 90% of projects will be shit you should use an 8 bit microcontroller for
>>
>>51631778
Portable radio station
solar powered FTP server/web server/seedbox
rc drone
>>
>>51631648
AVRs vs 8052 is easy, AVR.
It has more features like I2C.

Assembly vs C, well go for the one that is easier IMHO.
>>
>>51631778
I wanted to do NES/SNES emulator for a long time.

I wanted to get one of the SNES USB controllers and put Pi Zero in it and connect controller to Pi and have Battery and HDMI cable as connector.
>>
>>51631778

I am using a CHIP instead because it has built in WiFi but these projects would work on a Pi 0 as well

> WiFi remote/monitor for my garage door. Maybe a temperature probe too.

> Temperature probe/door seal monitor for my two freezers, because I don't want to lose my frozen food.
>>
>>51632003
CHIP is somewhat expensive now, 8bux delivery is what kills it, you can buy competitors with free delivery for same price.
>>
>>51632023

I already ordered mine with the Kickstarter. I think shipping was cheaper.
>>
Are there any good alternatives to the rpi that I can buy now?

Would make a good geek gift.
>>
>>51632205
ODROID-C1+
$37 so more expensive, but much better specs, with gigabit ethernet that IIRC doesn't share the USB.
>>
>>51631667
>"i-it supports 1080p GUI"
>can't actually do anything other than run on a 1080p monitor with shitlinux
>>
>>51632023
Don't forget the 15$ hats
>>
>>51632205
OLinuxino has SATA and gigabit support
>>
>PAH! why do YOU need one!?
Yeah because five fucking dollars is a frivolous amount to spend on a computer.
>>
>>51631648

Cool clock Ahmed
>>
>>51631805
>b-but it's only $5 plus like, $10 in adapters!
>same job doable with a $3 AVR and a maybe a couple extra dollars in passives
>>
>>51634804

But how much more work?
>>
>>51634950
depends, can be the same amount of work if;
a. the project requires some soldering either way, and
b. you use software already pre-made
it varies widly depending on what the project is which board/components are a better choice

there's a lot of projects out there using pi's for things a micro can do just as well if not better (better as in they run no OS to get in the way of real time execution, plus they start working instantly, they're smaller, they use way less power, not to mention they're cheaper)
>>
>>51630907
somebody needs to make a 10$ phone out of it
>>
>>51635738
Why won't you be that somebody?
>>
>>51636129

Lazy mostly.

Some lack of skill.

I would say 99% Lazy, 1% Lack of skills...
>>
>the factory for these is half a mile from where I work
>I could probably just pop by and pick one up on the spot
>>
>>51631778
I'd set it up with an ESP8266 and run a 10MHz clock from a rubidium oscillator for an atomic clock rdate server

>>51631805
>>51634804
Only part I need to buy is the ESP8266 that I'll be getting for my real choice anyway
>>
>>51631805
My project is writing a program whose sole purpose is to run on slightly higher hardware than an 8 bit microprocessor can run.
