What's your excuse for building a big box pc when you can build top of the line gaming pc this small?
Price
Preformance
Also Heat
Also Noise
>970
>top of the line
>>51627937
better airflow
easier
>>51627937
>being this small
>one GPU
>no audio card
>no RAID
Please OP
my computer's not for gaming - i have 32GB of RAM because I find the graph networks i work with take up stupid amounts of memory.
i do have a gtx 970 installed, but i don't think i've ever played a game - it just drives a few 4k monitors that are nice for coding, data vis, etc...
>>51627976
>Audio card
What is this? 1997?
>>51627986
Gotta rep that sound blaster 16
>>51627986
on board audio sucks, lots of noise and having a desktop interface for external devices, headphones, guitars, etc, is handy.
Fractal Design Core
What's /g/'s opinion of Fractal Design Core 500?
>>51628013
Ever heard of USB?
>>51627979
Max size of DDR4 non-ecc unbuffered module is 16GB at the moment.
>>51627937
>What's your excuse?
>difficult to clean and reach parts inside without disassembling the whole fucking thing if you don't have manlet hands
>severe limitations on hardware in order to accommodate small size and very few ports
>god forbid you buy a good graphics card and a tiny mITX case
>cramped everything means heat/noisy interference becomes an issue
>tiny everything means tiny fans means loud as shit
>2xDIMMs = fuck-spensive
>one or two SATA ports available, provided one hasn't already been overtaken by the graphics card
>footprint does not matter to you, you have plenty of room for a regular ATX computer you flashy faggot
Unless if you live in a 10'x10' studio apartment, there is no goddamn reason to get a "mITX GAYMAN RIG". You're just setting yourself up for worsened technical problems down the road, and people will confuse your PC for a small microwave.

When will the nano have non reference coolers?
>>51628038
I'm on DDR3 but when it's not insanely unreasonable I'd like to go up to 64 or higher. There's never enough memory for large scale social network analysis, to be honest. As it is, I have to work with very thin slices of data points, keep loading things into and out of disk space, etc...
I guess it's fortunate that I'm a grad student with access to computing resources (my advisor has a few machines with 1TB of memory, and obviously we have the funds to spin up some remote shit on AWS and EC2, but even there I don't think they have really competitive options, and certainly nothing cheap)
>>51628029
Not much price difference between a good USB and an Audio card that comes with external.
Plus I have no more free USB.... Wish I'd spent another £20 and bought a better board.
>only 8 USB
>>51628073
2x32GB ECC LRDIMM with the X99e-ITX is tested to be possible, and possibly even 128GB ram.
Though I'm not telling you to switch to mini-ITX. I'm just saying that it's possible.
>>51628127
Were not talking about servers here
>>51627959
>3.5gb
>>51627937
I like my GPU and CPU unthrottled, un-lastgen, and un-solo.
>>51629523
Neither am I. I'm talking about the Asrock X99E-ITX.
>>51628016
Best case for that size currently
Though I want to go even smaller
I didn't want a top of the line gaming machine I wanted a big box
>hanging a silverstone ML08B-H gaming/workstation build on the wall of my new tiny home
>6700k + 980ti in the size of a briefcase
>take it off the wall and go someplace if I need to
my hdd's aren't going to house themselves
i use all the space in my midi-atx case
>>51627937
Because you could go MicroATX rather than full retard and have none of the massive drawbacks and reasonable space use.
>>51629688
970 SLI here.
I feel slightly cheated that I can't run ANNs on my full VRAM but the price/performance is nice.
Will sell and upgrade later down the line, maybe when crossfire has more compatibility.
>>51627937
>dual channel ram
>top of the line
>>51627937
>only two ram slots
>only one PCI slot
>not many ports
If the new nvidia trash will have a new connection that would be possible with an adapter going from two PCIe, you're fucked
i like midtower cases. big enough to be spacious and fit lots of stuff and have good airflow but not lolhueg
>>51627937
I build and sell more and more ITX computers now. They're growing in popularity, despite their price being about $200 higher than an equivalent microATX computer.
I think it's because of the ITX cases. They tend to look better, sleeker, and less like a traditional computer.
>>51630606
>They tend to look better, sleeker, and less like a traditional computer
No they are fucking small, that's the only reason, their size makes them portable, hideable and shit, they're great for LANs or for casual consumer as a desktop
>>51627937
Mini-ITX is the most cu.ck thing in computers right now. You want gimped performance and thermal throttling? Get a console you fucking HOMO.
who micro-itx master race here?
>>51629722
>tiny home
Looking to build one. Any tips? Cost?
>>51630830
There's no such thing as micro-itx. Get your terminology right.
>>51630875
congrats anon, you passed my test.
>>51627937
>start up my new miniATX PC. Shit is cash bro
>wwhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
>WWHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
>*dabs sweaty forehead and opens window*
>WWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
>"FOR FUCKS SAKE WHY ARE YOU VACUUMING AT 2AM?!"
>>51630894
>Hurr I was just pretending to be stupid
>>51631424
Two computers with the same specs will put out the same amount of heat. The local temperature is just due to how quickly the heat dissipates.
A water cooled full tower placed in a small room will exhaust just as much heat as an mITX build. The bigger case just exhausts into the room faster.
>>51628070
I think Asus is making a white version.
>>51630830
I got a node 804, its a nice case and I like the seperate area for psu and drives but to be honest i regret not getting a tower case.
>>51631746
I have one too but the cable management towards the top of the case is kind of messy. I have a bunch of fan cables with no where to put them.
>>51631801
yea the cable management is one of my gripes with it. while I like the cube shape it's honestly not practical for me, its just limited my expandablity and gave my computer a larger foot print while still being too tall to put on a shelf or something.

>>51631831
honestly, I mainly just bought it because it was a qtpie.
>>51631424
>"why are you vacuuming at 2am"
Fucking ded, lol
