Never liked the Mac hardware past basic tasks, as nice as it is at doing that. But I don't think these little Zenbooks had the hardware to do much else than that either.
8:5 ratio is nicer with the limited desktop space to look at, and the Macbook finishing tends to be a little nicer than the Zenbook. I dislike that you can't easily open up a Macbook to service the insides, unlike the Zenbook.
BTW, does that Zenbook do something stupid like drop the internal calibration profile if you try to change the resolution. Because mine did that.

It definitely matters for what you want to do on it. If you are a developer I would recommend MBA, since Macs are capable of both iOS, OSX, etc. development as well as Android and others. Although the Air is probably not fitting as a developer station - you would likely want a Pro for that. For all other reasons I would go with the UX305 and install Linux if you don't plan to game on it.

Us305la reporting in. Best laptop I have ever owned. Only complaint is the hinge gets sorted of loose but if you handle it with care its all good.
