1) search nova launcher + whicons in the play store. mess around with any other icon packs that tickle your fancy along the way, but whicons just consistently works with a whole buncha shit (Zwart is the same, but in black)
2) there's two ways to get more interactive stuff, widgets are the easiest (zooper is getting up there in age, but it Jus Werks), but you can also try a live wallpaper, which can get incredibly deep if you want it to
These instructions are intentionally vague, but that's because most android ricing guides get outdated real quickly, and considering this is all about your customization, it's up to you to find out your comfort zone

I'm using nova launcher to make navbar transparent and get rid of notification bar, klwp for everything on the background (time, song, boxes etc.) and line icon pack for the icons.
If you're having trouble with klwp look up tutorials, that's what I did.
Quick reminder that the ppl who made KLWP have the same interface for plain old widgets now:

Better, but it could use some more work. You've got too much going on there. You should either stick with the horizontal row across the bottom, or the vertical row on the left side, otherwise the screen looks too crowded.
Get rid of the page indicator at the bottom, and find a different clock widget. Try finding a symmetrical one with less information and matching colors to the rest of your theme.

You could use WidgetLocker, although it's a paid app and has been abandoned by the dev for a couple of years.
Rooting itself isn't even that hard, just unlock bootloader if you need to, install TWRP/CWM recovery from fastboot and flash SuperSU.

It looks really nice, but there's a few improvements that can be made. Get rid of the outline around the music widget, and find a different place for the battery widget. Everything on your screen is symmetrical so your battery widget placement should be as well.
Other than that it looks really nice. Maybe try getting rid of some of the apps at the bottom since that's kind of a lot, but it would look fine without any changes there.
