I'm building my wife's son a new computer. At first I wanted to get him an already assembled PC, but since so many people on Reddit and 4 chan told me to build my own PC, I figured why the hell not?

I need some advice on which motherboard and UPS to get.

Processor: l5 6770k skylake
Graphics card: Geforce 970 superclocked gaming
64gb of ram
8tb HDD (can't remember which one, I think it's WDD or something like that)
Probably a Diablotek 1050kW UPS

I'm not too knowledgeable about computers so any help will be much appreciated.

Gonna get a 240GB SSD for £7 more on Monday. Other than that what can be improved/swapped?
>>
>>51579534
Dude, 64GB it's way overkill 8 or 12 are enough.
Also instead of a 8 TB just get 2 TB and some sort of SSD (M.2, 2.5" or PCIe)
What is he going to use the PC for? a server?

Way too much. 1-2 TB is enough for most people.

I'm sorry it took me a while to reply, I'm with my son right now. I only see him on the weekends, but that's beside the point.

>>
>>51579701
I see the problem now anon, Minecraft is a really hardcore game and he will need a lot of power to livestream it and manage all his social networks.

I would recommend getting 4 Nvidia Titan Z and use them in SLI, and Intel i9 9001k CPU and also at least 3 4K monitors.

"No such thing. What's your budget?"
My bad. It's actually an i7 6700k. As I said, not too good with computers.
"I would recommend a Sapphire R9 390 over it."
Why? Do sapphires help? Don't want to spend too much.
"I don't even.. 8-16 GB is enough."
I thought RAM was very important? I think spending a bit more on RAM wouldn't hurt. 64 is after all 8 times more than 8gb. I think it's worth it.
"Way too much. 1-2 TB is enough for most people."
Ok.
"I'm really not sure if I'm replying to a troll right now. 550-650W is enough."
I'm not an internet troll and why does everyone keep saying that? I asked the same thing on Reddit and several people called me a 'troll'.

Swapping from the 1 Benq at 1080p to a triple monitor set up so I'd like to upgrade my video card. The Vapor-X 290 is within budget (up to $300), but the TDP would require me to upgrade my GPU as well. The 970 wouldn't and is around the same price.

Meme card aside (I doubt I'll more more than 3GB at 1080p) is the 970 the better buy?

>>
>>51580013
On the off chance you're serious, I'll tell you why 8-16GB RAM is fine.

Imagine a water pipe. The amount of RAM you have would be the diameter of the pipe, and the CPU would be the volume of how much water flows through it. Now, you want to have enough room for the water to flow, but also more to expand. You will never have more than your CPU will allow.

Your current build is like building a mile-wide pipe and only sending a trickle through it. It's wasteful and stupid. Stick to 16GB, and stop being one of those morons who think "RAMs is important".

don't fall for the mechanical keyboard meme, you did well with the mouse, but 130€ for keyboard is just plain stupid. Same thing with the headset, you could get much better headphones for half the price (some panasonic ones on amazon come to mind, can't find specific model) + cheap mic if you really need it. Go to hpg, they can recommend you better value for your money.
I'll repeat again, you probably don't need 32 gigs of RAM, but fine, it's your money.
And about those ssd, is 17€ really that big difference that you decided the 120gb model for your OS? You just wasted 100 of euros on other shit that's less vital to you. Go for 2x250 if you're already buying two.
That v7 display sounds awful, but if you really need it, ok.
I still believe your cpu and gpu are overkill for your needs, but it's your money. Won't complain about those, but that keyboard, headset and ram is waste of money.

Why would you go for a 6600k, when the 4970k out performs it. Not only is it cheaper, but you also don't need a skylake MB to run it.

Could have spent the money on a Z97-Pro, 4970k and had some left over to get the 980 Ti. Not to mention doubled up your RAM by going DDR3 instead.

Bigger numbers don't mean gooder.

That isn't cheap. I'm buying one. It has good reviews and if its loud I'll put some noctuas on there. I can't fit any bigger radiators in that case and I'm not paying $150+ for a cpu cooler. If you want to buy them for me I will, but otherwise it isn't happening.

Asus dCUII R9 390x, Samsung 850 Pro, WD Black 500gb from like 6 years ago, Hitachi 3tb from like 4 years ago, Corsair HX1000 from 8 years ago, CM HAF original from 8 years ago (seriously this case is god-tier), and some random 500gb Seagate drive from 8 years ago.

This is my first foray into any form of liquid cooling (old board had whatever the Noctua NH-D15 replaced, their massive one for LGA1366 and newer) and I got the Kraken for $70 off superbiiz so why not. Cheaper than a new Noctua.

There's really no perceivable difference between standard (1333 and higher) memory speeds. For gaming you won't use 12 GB of ram, but more ram always means you can have more programs open. CPU permitting. And if you've got it already save yourself the cash.

The 290 gets very hot. Into the high 80s low 90s. According to AMD that's a safe temp, but I don't like seeing my cards above 60-70c. The extra 100 is worth it if you don't want your PC to be an oven. Also the fan is very loud as well.

Hey, I am trying to find a GPU for the SilverStone ML06-E. However, I am having a hard time finding the most powerful (and latest) GPU that would fit this tiny case.
More specifically, I don't know what to google for...

The case specification says:

I've had shitty laptops for the last 7 years and been out of gaming in the present for a while, so I'd like to play catchup and possibly run newer stuff at low settings (or just upgrade my computer down the road as I learn more).

Is there any real reason not to Seasonic power cables with a Corsair power supply? Eg to hard drives, video card, etc
They all say "use cords for this brand and model power supply only" etc but I don't see the difference if it's all just identical copper wire, especially if Corsair PSUs really are just rebranded Seasonics.
I think my Seasonic PSU died so I want to try my Corsair PSU in my rig to verify, and what better use of a modular power supply than just taking one out and putting another in without dealing with wires and cable management for an hour?

It was a pretty decent card to begin with but after around six months it would crash constantly. Opened it up and changed the thermal paste and it ran a lot better, so that's probably just msi being retarded. After getting GTA 5, the card would crash to gray bars after around 2 hours of gameplay. At this point I'd already voided the warranty because they put a sticker over a screw on the back that reads, "warranty void if broken" so now my autism was to blame. I had money so I upgraded after a year with the card. Anyway there's a lot of posts on forums about the same issues I had, but those people RMAd their cards because they didn't suffer from my level of autism.

While i do not personally have, i have saved asses of people who have/or had to be precise. (Talking about self-contained coolers, at least that's what most people buy anyway)

About problems, well, happens more often then people online will tell you. Those who have it, will usually say:

"I have mine for X Years, and didn't fail on me!"

Sure, air coolers who overclock well are BIG and ugly, and usually block access to your RAM, and don't overclock as high (You'll usually squeeze an extra 700-900MHZ give or take). But at least they're reliable

Should get 980Ti at that point. Only card worth getting for from nVidia and it can definitely match Fury X and overclock better.
>>
>>51582446
wait wtf why are you getting a fucking 960 with an i7
>>
>>51585227
forgot, It's a friend's build and he is only getting the win10 if my weekend wurrier pirate skills don't work on cloning his laptop's OS.
PCpartpicker says that the ram is too fast for the cpu, and it will just undervolt the ram, I don't have experience OC'ing, but I'm pretty sure that's bs

Is it all compatible?
Anything that might be major bottleneck?

Second one. Easy.

pcpartpicker.com checks for compatibility
I don't see any bottlenecks, looks nice assuming it's compatible.

Looks fine to me, i7 will certainly last and I assume you can and 16 more gigabytes of memory (depends on your motherboard) should you ever need to. Nocta are great products if you don't mind the hugeness. I recommend checking compatibility on pcpartpicker if you haven't done so already.

no idea what im doing

nigger what the fuck are you doing
>>
>>51585665

Change Seagate HDD to Western Digital Black or Blue. They're more reliable.
>>
>>51585701
Yeah I heard great things abhout them, if I get the one in OP i can do with a mid-sized case. They also sell the combos that are pretty huge and require full case, I think I'll just settle with the full tower for now

Thanks, I know it's overkill but trying to get best bang for my buck that'll last me awhile

The only thing i would change in your build would be those Seagates HDDs. I had 3 fail on me (less then 1 year), never again.

Fucking finally, a sane person posting a PCPP link instead of copy-pasting part names or taking screenshots. I fucking love you. I'll help you out.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mN9R7P

Pretty much an entire level above both the CPU and the GPU you chose.

Also gave you a MUCH better mouse. It has a sensor that trades blows with the stuff in $70 Zowie meme mice. Keyboard is a toss-up, but I think you'd probably appreciate not having those bright-ass lights.

Saved money on mobo, case, DVD burner, and monitor. Monitor, while cheaper, was actually an upgrade (IPS).

I poted the Tweaktown link and I just want to add that I've had horrible experiences with Seagate HDDs myself, just anecdote.

Their SSDs have been completely fine for me.
>>
>>51585771
Overkill means lasts longer. Full tower is investment/preparation for future upgrades... so don't get an ugly full tower.
Other anon had a point that Seagate are kinda shit-tier.

The mobo+ram are a combo

I need advice on cpu. I want to get the best cheapest i5. Is 4th generation enough? Something that won't bottleneck my r9 270
>>
>>51586342
i5 4460, anything like that
