Just make it '/g/ - Technology Support and Consumer Advice'

If no one follows or enforces the rules, then they cease to be rules. Delete the sticky and let the retards run rampant.

>If no one follows or enforces the rules, then they cease to be rules. Delete the sticky and let the retards run rampant.
this.
The board is shit nowadays. Only filled with consumerism.
If there's general it's to keep the retards in their containments threads and to be able to discuss about serious stuff with the few that actually come here for technology.
>>
Agreed. Millennials are trashing everything up these days. Just wipe out all the males and leave the females for us better generation.
>>
What's so bad about these 'subreddits'? It's still on 4chan so reddiquite or whatever isn't really going on. Seems like these threads serve only to organize a board which is so easily susceptible to chaos and unfiltered memes.

Do It Yourself board and Science board are pretty much all the good of /g/ that is no more.

One is people who actually have garages, tools, and skills in machinery, and can be referred to as technicians.
The leftover on /g/ is basically people who think stuffing a few PC components onto a motherboard and into a PC case makes them a "technician".

The other is people with actual higher education talking about technology requiring such education, like the more detailed workings of electronics and components, engines, wind turbines, solar panels, lasers and optics, etc.
The leftovers on /g/ are basically faggots who think a clockrate and memory quantity in a GPU is all that is needed to evaluate its performance, and think that ricing their OS makes them true tech literates.

The solution is to delete /g/ and add /prog/ as a programing board.
Thus /diy/, /sci/, and /prog/, constitute everything relevant without /v/ and /mu/ faggotry ruining it.

General threads are chatrooms for people who don't like *chan style transience.

They are the worst cancer to happen to this site.

These people should move to a platform that suits their need for permanent ongoing conversation. Make yourselves IRC chatrooms, or subreddits, or a phpBB forum.

Stop shoehorning your long term social network crap into a platform designed for temporary disposable topics.

This.

The generals keep people they don't like holed up in their own little worlds. The fact that faggots are still complaining means that that problem lies with them, and not the generals. They don't like seeing the threads on /g/ at all, which is stupid, because it doesn't harm them. This is kind of cancer that killed off /v/ and will never allow it to return.

Generals on /v/ went to shit because retards refused to learn how to post on 4chan. Every other board can do a general just fine. For some reason nobody on /v/ wanted to do them properly, so a split was necessary to keep the board from burning itself down.

Don't compare the morons on /v/ to any other board. Nobody deserves that comparison. Not the retarded happenings fags on /pol/ or the Baneposters on /tv/. Not even /s4s/ deserves that kind of insult.

>>
>>51575357

No, they're not.

You know how I can tell? Because there aren't 3 different HPGs up right now, all of them being kept on page 1 from unique bumps. Or hell, multiple versions of any of the generals operating in such a manner. Were you around in 2011 when /v/ was being destroyed by generals? This is nothing compared to that.

Go check the catalog; there's only one general that has more than one thread up, and that's Private Tracker General. One of those threads is at bump-limit and is going to fall off the board.

I could understand that you have something against generals themselves, or against the people in them. But if that's the case, then say so. Don't compare this to /v/, or say it's anything like their problems with generals, because that just makes you look like an ass.

obviously generals have a purpose, we'd rather they fulfilled it somewhere else
>>
A new text only board was made just now
>>>/news/
>>
>>51575482

By having multiple generals about the same topic on the board at the same time. This was before the catalog, and retards were refusing to go past page 0/1. That was always a problem on 4chan, but /v/ took it to a whole new level and with the large population the board had at the time, it was not unusual to see multiple Pokemon, League of Legends, HoN, etc up on the board at the same time. You had to go past page 5 to stop seeing generals, and all the multiple copies were being bumped because all of them were being used.

This is nothing like that. Yeah, some 1/4th of the board, at worst, are generals, but there's only one of each unless the old general hasn't been bumped off of the board.

there are some of us that are kind of adjusted to blend into society, then there are others that filled their rooms with anime figurines, have big tittied anime girls on the desktops/homescreens.
it's one thing to be into anime and enjoy it, its another to have an obsession
Seriously, if a person *only* seems to post loli images, you would think there is something wrong with them.
Same thing can be said about an obsession to only save/post pictures of girls lifting up their skirts saying "b-b-be gentle its my first time senpai"
its some weird vicarious living through anime , to make themselves feel better or some shit.

Sounds to me like you've got a case of the Fox and the Grapes. You don't have what they have, so what they have is shit.

>consumer review generals create a safe, welcoming space for retards nobody wants on /g/

So what we need instead are more people like you? "Don't discuss things I don't want you discussing or I'll post off-topic where I scream and cry!" Does this sound familiar? It's you.

They're not breaking the rules. They're on-topic. They stay in their little corner off to themselves. They're not coming out and bothering you. For the most part there's no doubles of their threads, and they tend to keep the board clean and not create duplicates as much as possible. If anything leaks out, it's not the end of the world, because I doubt they're as shitty as people like you who gotta make threads like this. /g/ has it's own problems, and I don't see these generals being a part of it. There's not so many of them that they prevent any other discussion on this slow as thick molasses board.

Proposed solution:

1. Add /general/ filter to all boards on 4chan. This will allow users to hide/filter all general threads at once at their leisure. It will be a button located right next to the auto checkbox in the UI.

2. When creating a thread it may be checked as a /general/ thread or a generic/regular thread.

3. General threads may only be created once per 15 minutes.

4. General threads do not count towards the board thread limit.

4. If a thread is created which is a general thread in disguise without checking the /general/ check box it will be deleted and the user will be banned.

5. 4chan will get better mods and admins to actually enforce these rules and encourage variety of discussion on all boards.

I know there are some issues with this plan but I feel like the overall direction is good.
>>
>>51578474
>3. General threads may only be created once per 15 minutes.

Clarification: this is board wide and not per user. So if you tried to create a general and it hadn't been 15 minutes you'd be locked out of doing it.

>They're not breaking the rules. They're on-topic.
Yeah, and neither are frogposters, neither are those dreaded newfags you keep whining about, neither am I for wishing the moderation team would do their fucking jobs and take away your precious hugbox. It's not like the rules are upheld here anyway, if they were, the majority of generals like /tpg/ et al. would be at least severely lobotomized in activity if not totally wiped off of the board because consumer reviews and tech support are forbidden (though the latter merely strongly discouraged) by the sticky.
>>
>make general threads stay on page 2

We need a /gg/.
>>
>>51578815

Yeah, at least I can defend my position. Your aversion to generals is "JUST 'CAUSE!"

Oh and c'mon. Consumer review? Shit, Anon. I didn't know it was against the rules to discuss /g/-related products that you own.

Oh, and tech support. Yeah you can't just ask for tech support, but you can get it if you learn how to OP properly. Just like getting sauce on /a/; if you straight-up as for it, you wont get it, but you can get it if you fool the fucktards into thinking they're not giving sauce.

But really, most of the shit you complain about in generals sticks to generals. There's nothing forcing you to go into them, and they're not forcing themselves on you.

If it's against the rules, then take it up with the moderation staff. I mean, as long as they've been around, you'd think /something/ would be done by now? Or is it just a conspiracy with the staff to hate you?

I don't even like generals but this notion that creating a new board to move generals there is just fucking dumb. It doesn't solve anything. It just keeps adding new boards for no reason.
