Should I go the comfortable route and get a 4970k with an lga1150 motherboard or should I plunge into the future with a 6700k and an lga1151 motherboard? Not to mention DDR4 memory. Is the future bright /g/?

Go X99
>>
>>51562010
If you're buying latest gen, there is a price. Unless you specifically need CPU performance (aka, not gaming), it's probably not worth it.
>>
>>51562042
This. Really not impressed with Skylake, was able to go X99 for only a little bit more and get more overall performance + cache. Try to snag the 5820K on sale if you go this route now though, Broadwell-E chips will be out early next year.
>>
My OC'ed 4790K is almost as fast as the new ones
>>
>>51562086
Or go balls out on 5930K and buy Broadwell-E in two years
>>
>>51562139
>almost as fast as

u wot m8
>>
My main concern is future proofing my computer. I was originally gonna go with the 6 core 5820k but it doesn't seem like that's where the future's heading.
>>
>>51562208
????? Broadwell-E ????
Those chips could last you 6 years playing ultra
>>
>>51562010
X99 like everyone is sayin

Got a 4790k here, its great, but extreme/enthusiast chips are the way to go for long term
>>
>>51562481
shit man, I just ordered a 4790k. How long do you think it'll last me? Should i just get the 5820k?
>>
I'm about to buy a new rig for gaming.
I can't decide between an i5 6400 or 6600.

How much the difference is, and for how long I'm set with both of them?
>>
>>51564541
6 cores ain't worth it if you only game.
>>
>>51562284
>not realizing the i7920 from over five years ago still plays every game at ultra
intel went to shit after the first gen i though.

>having to pay over 30% the price, for the OPTION to overclock
>meanwhile overkeking only gives at best 5% performance increase

shit company which keks its consumers deserves to burn to the ground tbqh senpai

i7 6700k
msi m7 board
16 gig dd4 ripjaw 3000
1200 watt powersupply "roswil photon"
8 terabyte hdd

palmetto state armory complete rifle kit

I am looking for a deal on an infrared scope for nighttime target shooting, and i'd like to find a cheap drum and a deal on the ssar-15 mod 0 stock, for shits and giggles at the range.
>>
>>51562010
I think I fucked up, I built a system a month ago with the 6600k. But seems like the 6700k would have gotten me a more stable framerate in FO4 because of those stupid fucking shadow distance.

Are other games gonna NEED a fucking i7 to perform well or you figure this is just a bethsoft fuckup and everything ele will work fine.

I upgraded from a 965 black @3.8. I run the 6600k @4.2 with an H100i GTX.
>>
All memory is going to be pcie pretty soon. That will age the platform more than ddr4 ever will. Sata ssd will look like garbage next to intel Optane.
>>
>>51566285
Plenty of games perform better with i7 cpus. That isn't the reason not to get one rather that 6700k not on back order is $450 compared to the i5 at $260.

>>
>>51566418
I don't care about performing better, jsut well. Going to high shadow distance in FO4 will bring you below 60 at 1080, even running a fucking 980 with that 6600k.
>>
>>51564541
The 4790k is only a year old, yeah I know it's a refresh but still. It performs great and will last you an easy 5-7 years
>>
>>51562139
>My OC'ed 4790K is almost as fast as the new ones

You mean "faster".

The I7-6700K is really not that impressive from a speed perspective. It just offers newer peripherals.

>fallout
notorious for being a poorly made hunk of junk. a lot like skyrim.

if you play decent games which are actually optimized for decent hardware, you'll be way better off buying something cheaper (like an 8320e) and then buying a way better GPU (which in the end provides far better performance)...

also giving intel your money is retarded..
>locking their multipliers forcing consumers to pay 30% more if they want to overkek
>overkeking over gives AT BEST 5% increase in performance for gaymen

also inb4 thread mysteriously gets deleted after posting what a shit company intel clearly is for its shitty marketing practises.
>>
>>51567061
The k version for both 6600 and 6700 is only about 20usd more where I live mate.

am i 12 because its easy to do? or because its stupid to do?

im so fucking confused by your autism
>>
>>51562010
I'd say go for it. The 4970k isn't even that much cheaper than it was originally retailing for. You're only saving fifty bucks.
Skylake means that you won't have to worry about chipsets and new tech for quite a while.
You'll the new sata connection, ddr4, better busses and whatever.
Buying last gen means you pay almost full price for none of that.
>>
>>51567168
>because its stupid to do?

ding ding ding

two posts in and still no reason WHY its stupid to do...

fo4 has shit optimization
even a sandy bridge i7 will be sufficient for most modern games

>>51567192

4970k is ~$300 iirc while 6700k's $420 due to low stock

>>51567248

a used 1st gen i7 is ~$30 or so
it'll be a pain to get the mobo and shit though, since they're mostly discontinued

mfw want to upgrade from 4440 to 4790k but can't justify the $300 for the performance i'll likely not even really use that much.

might as well spend it on a 980ti when they come down in price.

yep, I would have gone with the 4790k in that case instead of my 6700k, which was $370

>>51567590

even current-gen i3s (which are weaker than 1st gen i7s) are still getting >60 fps, interesting

>>51567535

yes, save for the gpu, especially due to the above
>>
>>51566844
Clock for clock 6700K is faster by about 5%.

A mild overclock will let the 4790K be even with it.

I went from the 2600K to the 4790K, the 2600K is excellent but it shows its age a bit, especially in other non-gaming tasks.
