I don't go on /g/ a lot, so just let me know if this should be in a different board.

Basically, I was looking at my system basic information, and saw that my computer is detecting my 8gb of RAM (4x2gb G Skill sticks), but only 3.9GB is usable (pic related)

What gives? I don't check this often, so I can say how long it's been like this. There've been times where my computer's been slow, but I'm not sure if that was due to this or not. Also, not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but my memory usage shown in task manager is sky high even when I'm just sitting on the desktop (3.35GB average). Are my sticks going bad, or something else? I haven't played with the insides at all lately. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jordan, are you on 32 bit windows?

are you somehow blind?

Should've cropped that.

But no, 64-Bit Home Basic
>>
>>51555558
Did you seriously take a picture of your monitor?
>>
NICE SCREENSHOT DUMB FUCK
>>
>>51555558

Try making a Linux livecd and checking the ram from there. That will let you know whether its a hardware or software issue.
>>
It should also be noted that I've already tried the "Uncheck Maximum Memory" box inside msconfig (It was never checked to begin with, so I didn't actually have to do anything)

My computer is so slow right now that I can't even get on the internet half the time, I'm using mobile :(

Install gentoo. That's your problem
>>
Have you already tried installing gentoo?
>>
>>51555660
No, I've considered it in the past but never got around to it. What would this do?
>>
>>51555686
It will grow unibrow for you.

Windows update is raping your ram right now.
Its your BIOS up to date?
Have you triee using diferent slots?
Why you're not running 10 (or 8.1 if you're granpa-tier paranoid)?
>>
>>51555747
I'm guessing that's not normal?
Not sure, haven't checked, but probably not
I will later today, I'm just waiting to see if there's something else to try first without having to remove anything
I like 7
>>
>>51555747
Because 8.1 is still botnet. Gentoo is the only answer.
>>
>>51555781
Windows 7 has several memory leaks when updating, 8.1 and 10 dont have this problem so far.
>>
>>51555558
Home basic will limit usable RAM to 4GB.

I would say that's the problem, but in your ghetto screenshot I can see that you have home premium. Try pirating ultimate and see if that fixes it.
>>
>>51555910
You're fucking wrong, HB limit is 8gb

>>

*8GB

No idea what the problem is.
It's a long shot, but did you try to set up a RAMdisk or something?
>>
>>51555614
Home Basic only uses 4 GB of ram at most.

go pirate Professional or Ultimate or Enterprise

>lying this hard
fuck yoo Jahmed
>>
>>51555640
this is the only good answer, if you have 8GB in linux then the easy fix is to format and re-install windows.
>>
>>51555613
Windows is 32-bit, 64-bit is just for compatibility. Fucking disguised as 64-bit but it's 32-bit. Trust me fucker. TRUST ME. TRUUUUSTTT MEEE
>>
>>51556394
Microsoft can't make 64-bit cause they are still basing their shit off 32-bit c++ dll shit
>>
Have you tried running memtest?
>>
>>51555579
32bit windows only use a little more than 3gb, also it's written right there 64bit
>>
>>51556564
Windows dll's that make up the system are 32-bit. Also you are trusting microsoft you dick, well maicrosoft says its there so it must be lalala im a fucking watard
>>
>>51555558
Delete System32, it is suppressing 4gb of your ram.

there's your problem.
>>
>>51555593
perhaps there's a BIOS setting that needs to be changed.

Are you running Windows in a VM?
>>
>>51556881
I'll check that later, and nope
>>
Write an Ubuntu live image to usb and see if everything it shows 8gb. This will make things easier because you would know if it's an issue with windows.
