thanks dude its not optimal and they do need to be restored, the subs have dry rotted and the ferrofluid from the tweeters has leaked but they still sound superb, im gonna worry about all that when I move out. They're KEF 104/2 from the 80s that were my dad's and he didn't touch them for years so I put them to use again. Once I get my own place I plan on giving them they're own room so i can do the math and get the most out of them. They still sound awesome and get the bitches wet so I'm good for now. They're getting driven by an also ancient Yamaha C-65 and M-65 amp & preamp. I listen to them almost everyday.

Speaker positioning one of the most important aspects.
If you live in the city, space is very tight, so even if you can squeeze in Floor standers, you could very well be better off with book shelves for extra positioning.
Not to mention that if you get a good sub, you'll still get good bass.
Better bass that if you just had floorstanders, as floorstanders can't properly use the .1 channel.

The location of receiving the smoothest bass response simply depends on the dimensions of your room. A room corner along the same wall as the setup is a good starting point for a lfe/sub.
is $190 for 2 POLK MONITOR 70 II tower speakers a good deal?
I've got some mid-tier Optimus towers for my living room but they're nothing spectacular. Those I drive with an old solid state Kenwood KA-801 I restored last winter and attached to that is a free-standing 800 niggawatt subwoofer. Used to be gud but at one point the woofer was replaced with some sony xplod garbage and so it mostly sounds like grunty farts.
My parents had a really nice pair of vintage HPM-1100's sitting in storage but they tossed them before I could grab them when they were doing some spring cleaning. No, instead they kept only these Polk Audio vintage towers with blown double mids. Plus their cats tore up the covers and they have water damage so there is nothing of value there to restore.
