Samsung 850 EVO
>>
>>51536642
Kingston but HyperX
or >>51536704

I've had both , absolutely perfect purchases
>>
>>51536647
Why? Asking out of curiosity, I have 1 build running this SSD.

>>51536665
Anything super cheap?
>>
>>51536738
I have one too. It's slow and people had bad luck with its lifetime.

More like an ethical issue. Don't give your money to charlatans.
>>
>>51536806
Fuck me, I fell for it. Have 2 of them in Raid 0.

Also I bought a 840 Evo before the problems came up with it, so I must be one of the unluckiest SSD buyers EVER.

how much of a performance boost is an ssd anyway?

how noticeable will it be compared to a 7200rpm wd caviar green?

also how long do they last?
>>
Samsung, Intel, and Crucial are the best brands right?
>>
>>51536642
it's cheap for a reason
>>
>>51537977

Boot time is very noticeable, load time on programs improved as well.

Noticeable compared to a Green, hell I noticed the difference from Blues.

Depends on the NAND type - but generally they last quite a while if you get a reliable one.

Difference to HDDs is that they have no moving parts, but once they die, they just die - not like a lot of HDDs where they grind to a halt and you notice it.

Also, don't fucking defrag them.

Samsung 850 evo. It's that easy.
>>
850 evos have been dropping in price like crazy the last few weeks (atleast in Europe). I have a few and experienced no problems yet.
>>
>>51539436
>>51539518
Is there any significant difference between the evo and the pro?
>>
Does someone have a chart or tier list of ssd's available in the market in terms of different categories. The categories are like speed, reliability and perfomance and then all of those combined for a best.
>>
Mushkin ftw
>>
>>51537977
850 EVO has a 5 year warranty, so about 5 years or more.
>>
>>51539554
Kinda.
We're talking memory endurance. The Evo will only last about 15 years while the pro will be lasting more like 80
>>
>>51539414
>but once they die, they just die
don't they lose capacity gradually?
>>
>>51540309
They do, but SSDs never die because the memory gives in.
SSDs just 'die' because something else fails, the controller usually.
The 'write limit endurance' thing is a big-ol shitty meme.

>he has his main OS installed on a green

OH WOW
>>
>>51540406
w-what's wrong with that?
>>
>>51540474
Greens are good for long term storage breg, it even says on the WD website they make shitty OS disks. From the platters to the arms to the controller itself, the entire thing is designed for consumer storage. Blue or Black for OS. Red or Green for Storage.

There is a reason Greens are cheap.

If you buy an SSD the difference will not only be like night and day, but like having a blind fold on and then taking it off to the blinding flash of a nuclear explosion.

Well fuck me, I thought they were just a tad slower than blue/black. Thanks senpai, now I can't wait till the drive arives

>WD green vs SSD
Your user experience will improve by ~1500%, if you are a power user

>OS on WD green
Well... I guess you are not a power user. So lets say 500%.
>>
Whats the best way to migrate everything from an OS HDD to a SSD?
>>
>>51541087
Acronis True Image

Clonezilla

Uhhh

Some higher end SSDs come with their version of the above. Samsung Pro versions do I think.
>>
I've been using a WD raptor drive for a few years now. Would an upgrade to an ssd be worth it?
>>
>>51541434
A significant upgrade, in fact.

There are no disk drives on the planet that can compete with modern SSDs.
>>
>>51541466
Thanks, I guess it's a good time to grab one then. I don't have a ssd mount for my case but I assume I could just velcro it right?
>>
>>51540406
>tfw prebuilt had a green as the HDD
>finally did an entire custom build last year
>had to re-use the ram and HDD

waiting for christmasbux to finally replace it with an SSD

>500 GB Samsung EVO SSD is sub $150 on amazon

why hasn't everybody jumped on this like a dog in heat? Bought 2. One for my PS3, and one for my PC, and i'll put the one currently on my PC in my parents's build.
>>
>>51542759
Because I bought a 512GB 850 Pro last week.

>219
>came with a game I wanted any ways
>Like paying 150-ish
>>
>anything other than Intel
enjoy your hard drive death in 3 years
>>
>>51542914
And people say there aren't any shills on this board.
>>
>>51541509
Not sure if this is bait, but in the off chance it isn't, just spend a few bucks and get a mounting bracket. They're not expensive.
>>
>>51536642

I would definitely recommend Samsung. I have used them in many systems, fast, great price. They are only $66 today on Amazon which is totally worth it https://twitter.com/ProductSpotter/status/669991909511856129
>>
>>51542759
can the PS3 even benefit from an SSD?
I remember some guy replaced the 5200RPM HDDs in the xbox one and PS4 with SSDs and he got pretty limited speed improvements.
>>
Not really. The only real benefit I have seen was faster map loading in GTA V.
